INTERVIEW: TITLE OF WORK

Art and Fashion are intrinsically intertwined. McQueen, Margiela, Rey Kawakubo, Rick Owens, Raf Simons and Craig Green are the first designers to come to mind. The accessory world, on the other hand, has surprisingly little to offer, focusing more on lucrative strategies. Rare are the talents rethinking the medium and bringing a more intellectual approach. Jonathan Meizler of ‘Title of Work’ is one of them. I was first introduced to ‘Title of Work’ last year when shooting the New Comers editorial. We had these intriguing ties mixing different materials (wool/ cashmere and sterling silver/ diamonds). We finally met a couple of weeks ago to discuss his work process and how he launched his brand. “After closing my women’s wear’s line in 2010, I wanted to challenge myself and focus on menswear. After working on the brand identity, I realized that the commercial commitment (it takes a few seasons to settle a brand) and the timeline were not aligned. I questioned my involvement in the fashion industry and what it meant to me. It was an essential and organic process.
