Hunter: 21 Months

Thanks so much for all your get well wishes for Hunter! He’s doing much better now – yay!

Speaking of the little man, it’s been awhile since I’ve done an update on him. I thought I’d do one more before he turns TWO (how did that happen?!) at the end of March. These little people change so quickly in the first couple years of life, so I want to make sure I have it all documented!

Weight & Height:

I’m totally clueless on this one. He’s definitely grown in height and I imagine weight too since his last appointment at 18 months!

Eating:

Some days the kid eats like a horse while other days he eats more like a bird. I’ve learned to just roll with it and don’t stress about it much anymore. I do occasionally get frustrated that he continues to be somewhat of a picky eater, but I guess things could be worse.

His favorite foods: cheese, yogurt, bread (of any kind), FlapJacked pancakes, smoothies, peanut butter, pizza, chicken, hotdogs, spaghetti, bananas, berries of all kinds, clementines, raisins, applesauce, all desserts (he’s his mama’s son).

Vegetables continue to be one of his least favorite foods, but occasionally I can get him to eat kale chips, roasted sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, and I sneak in spinach wherever I can!

We continue to do three meals and two snacks with an occasional third snack before bed if he didn’t eat a good dinner.

Sleeping (naps):

He continues to take just one nap in the afternoon – usually from 1 to 4ish PM. Sometimes they’re a little shorter, sometimes a little longer. We’ve had the occasional napping strike here and there, but overall he’s a pretty good napper.

Sleeping (at night):

We put Hunter to bed at about 8 PM (sometimes a little later on the weekends if something is going on), and he’ll sleep until about 8:30 AM. It’s been nice not to have to be quite so strict about bedtimes on the weekends. Since he’s gotten a little older, he’s able to deal with being tired better so it doesn’t seem to bother him as much if he’s occasionally up an hour past his usual bedtime.

Clothing:

He’s out of pretty much all of his 12 month clothing now, and is wearing 18-24 month clothing with some 2T stuff too.

Social:

I’ve seen Hunter grow the most in this area the last couple months and it’s been SO fun! He’s been pretty social since he was just a little tiny squirt, but his vocabulary has exploded within the last month or two. He’ll try to mimic almost anything we say these days, which can be both scary and fun.

New these last few months:

-He’s learned more body parts. He currently knows head, hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, chin, cheek, elbow, knee, toe, foot, hand, and belly.

-He’s learned the difference between being quiet and being loud. He’ll talk softly when I tell him to be quiet and yell when I tell him to be loud.

-He’s running! Everywhere!

-He knows a lot more animal noises. Among them are: dog, kitten, monkey, horse, cow, bird, bear, lion, duck.

-He’s infatuated with trains and says “choo! choo!” every time he sees or hears one.

-He’s more aware of when he’s going pee or poop. He’ll hold his diaper and say “poo!”.

-His attention span has improved, and he can sit still for a little longer than he used to (which still isn’t a lot, but we’re getting there!).

-He’s become a little more interested in TV, which I haven’t decided is a good or bad thing.

-He’s suddenly become very opinionated about things.

-Tantrums are totally a thing.

-Everything is “no” even when he means yes. He even has a little attitude in his tone when he says it. It’s funny now at nearly two years old. We’ll see how I feel about it in a year or two from now.

Stop growing up so fast, will you little boy? I love you SO much my sweet Hunter! Thank you for bringing us so much joy every single day.
