Weekend Dressing: Suiting Up with Summer’s Most Inspired Swimwear Looks

It’s that time of year! While the weather might not be showing for it these days in Houston, sunny days, bright sun, and hours by the beach and pool are heading our way, and we are excited. Francene is back today to talk to us about all the swimwear trends of the season. Let’s dive in!

This has to be my favorite time of year, and even more so after moving state side and being able to introduce swimwear into my wardrobe without having just one swim suit I would use for vacation once a year. I find myself working my outfits around my swim wear pieces more and more at the weekends. What’s a girl to do if we have three swimming pools in our complex?! Here are some of the swim wear trends to embrace this summer. This is not something we should be afraid of ladies!

This summer is filled with glorious swim wear options from eye-feasting patterns and colors to fancy designs and futuristic style solutions used. The summer 2015 swimwear trends bring a rich diversity of styles, shapes and shades to meet the style expectations and demands of every shopper! Here are some of the highlights from our browsing that will be making huge fashion impact on our beaches and around our pools this summer:

3D Print Designs

We always love to experiment with exciting printed and patterned looks when hitting the beach. 3D printed and patterned swimwear styles are the first on this list, since they do surprise with the interesting dimension of the photo prints used, which only enhance the uniqueness of the pieces. This summer check out these designs from Mara Hoffman, Salinas, Agua de Coco, Adriana Degreas among many others who are evolving and incorporating this look into their collections.

High Neck Crop Top

A new interesting swimwear trend that we have started to see quite frequently recently is the high neck crop top bikin/two-piece style, which at first sight might not be the best option you can pick if getting a perfect tan is your aim. Still, such pieces look ultimately cute and innocent and can be a go-to option for you on the days when you want to show off your style more than just get a tan.

Longline Bikini tops

Just like those high neck bikinis, longline bikini tops also add a big dose of cuteness and femininity to the wearer’s look. This is a beautiful fashionable trend if you aren’t as comfortable with your midriff but still want to wear a bikini. Experiment with contrasting bright colours.

Long-Sleeved Swim Attire

If it’s not longline than it’s long-sleeved and extravagant – who’d have thought long-sleeved swimwear would be a trend?! Available both as one-piece and stylish separates, long-sleeved swimwear designs come as innovation targeting those ladies trying to make a big style statement when glamorously lounging at the pool or desire to add a long or short skirt, soft pant and/or pareo for a drink or dinner at the pool bar!

Retro Style

I love this style so much, no matter it’s about beauty, fashion or swimwear. Stylish high-waisted bottoms still keep their hot positions in the range of spring/ summer 2015 swimwear trends, coming as stylish alternatives for those, looking for a better coverage and a more fashionable outcome feeling confident and comfortable at the same time. Plus it adds a great playful throw-back to the early days of the two-piece suit!

Sporty Gal

Sporty chic is back to fashion as we learn it from the hottest spring/ summer 2015 fashion trends, and this has influenced the swimwear trends as well. Featuring creative zips, cuts neoprene materials and interesting slogans, sporty chic swimwear designs come packed with a big dose of high style and comfort, and not just your basic swim tank (though there’s a need for this as well if you are a serious swimmer). For many of us, this is what we are ideally looking for as we have certainly taken to this sporty idea as a major trend for the stylish women in apparel for Spring into Fall, 2015.

Provocative Sheer For The Most Daring Of Ladies

Another absolutely unexpected and creative swimwear style for the new season is one that comes straight from the runways of apparel. Featuring mesh, sheer materials, and laces quite often revealing more than intended, and always looking sexy! Now don’t get me wrong this is a striking creation and definitely not for the faint hearted. I could see these being worn to more nighttime pool party affairs.

Girlie Ruffles

Changing into a more girly trend we find ourselves falling in love with ruffles and frills – adding so much innocence and flirtiness to simplistic designs. Ruffled bikini tops are especially great swimwear options for those having a smaller bust, while those with a big bust are advised to stay away from this style.

Sophisticated and Elegant Designs

Taking swimwear design to a whole new level, many designers showed high-end options meant for that glamorous society. These are pieces not everyone can wear and not everywhere you can see girls wearing, since they require at least high heels to look perfectly complemented. Embellished with gorgeous thin waist belts and detailing.

Swimwear is not just about the suit or bikini. My favorite pool outfit is a simple black strapless bikini I bought from Target but by adding contrasting accessories and cute kaftans or sheer tops we create a whole new dimension to the ‘simple base’.

Now practically speaking, I don’t expect to see us ladies wearing their swimsuits with a kaftan and stiletto heels parading around the swimming pool. However, we can still add items to take our swimwear attire from during the day to night, whether it’s lying by the pool or beach to lunch and then cocktails. By adding items such as bunches of bracelets, I’m obsessed with gold accessories you can pick up fabulous pieces from places like Charming Charlie and TopShop (recently opened in Galleria), trendy sunglasses (such as the last brand I wrote about Finlay & Co. and classics like Tortoise or coloured Prada) and gorgeous (don’t remember they need to be comfortable) sandals or wedges if you want to elongate your leg which I’m sure most of us do especially when in swimwear! Aldo have reasonably inexpensive choices of footwear but also bags for all occasions. J Crew have the most comfortable wedges I’ve ever worn! I have a beige pair that has been dragged out of hiding for summer!

For our swimwear us girls need a big enough bag to carry our towel, sunscreen (don’t leave home without it now) lip gloss, phone, book… dare I go on? We have a lot of stuff all needed of course. All designers at all price levels have embraced large totes, especially in straw materials. Michael Kors offer perfect sized tote bags along with Henri Bendel who have a great sports selection. If you’re looking for something smaller try A Bientot for great and interesting clutches or smaller shoulder bags.
