Smile Brilliant! - Professional Teeth Whitening

Today I have a special review on the blog! It's all about teeth whitening! I was lucky to be able to try Smile Brilliant! - Professional Teeth Whitening system and I wanted to share my experience here with you.
Everything you need to create your whitening kit arrives in a nice box. With this kit, you will be able to create custom trays that fit your teeth perfectly.
In the box, you have:
- 2 trays
- 3x base paste 3x catalyst paste
- 3 desensitizing gel syringes (1 syringe = 3-4 applications)
- 3 teeth whitening gel syringes (1 syringe = 3-4 applications)
STEP 1
Before your begin to make the teeth impressions, you have to brush your teeth thoroughly. Don't forget to use dental floss! If your teeth are not clean, especially if you have tartar on your teeth, you won't be able to get nice results. Therefore I highly recommend that you go and see your hygienist before starting whitening your teeth.
STEP 2
In the kit, you have 3 sets of impression material (catalyst and base paste). You will normally only use 2 sets (one for upper and one for lower teeth impressions). The 3rd one is provided in case you make a mistake and want to redo one of the impressions. You have to mix the content of one catalyst and one base paste jar together following the detailed instructions provided in the kit. Then you have to set the putty in the tray and press it into teeth to make the impressions. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. Do the same for the second tray and you're done!
Below is a picture of how the impressions of the teeth in the impression putty should look! I was first a bit worried but it was fast and super easy to make.
STEP 3 In the kit, you will also find a pre-paid envelope to ship the trays back to Smile Brilliant. Pre-paid envelopes are for US residents only. Otherwise, you will have to pay to ship the trays back, but as they are not heavy, it's not much.
STEP 4
When Smile Brilliant's team receives your trays, they will make plaster molds of your teeth (see the picture below)! These molds are part of the process of creating the custom fitted trays. You can see that Smile Brilliant are doing a pretty good job and a lot of hard work goes into making the trays. In this way, the trays will fit your teeth perfectly! And that's a huge plus of this whitening kit!
STEP 5
After about 3-4 business days (6-10 international), you will receive your custom fitted trays in the mail! Yay~ I was impressed, the trays fitted perfectly!
STEP 6 Once you have your trays, you can start whitening your teeth. I started with the desensitizing gel. This gel temporarily seals micro-fractures and pores in your tooth's enamel. This eliminates the opportunity for teeth whitening gel to penetrate into the more sensitive dentin beneath the enamel. Therfore tooth pain will be avoided. You have to apply the gel along the inner surface of the trays. I typically kept the gel for 20 minutes before rinsing my mouth with water and proceeding with the next step. The last step involves the use of the whitening gel (22% carbamide peroxide). You can wear the trays with the whitening gel for 20 minutes to 3 hours. I usually keep them for 1h.
THOUGHTS & RESULTS
You will start seeing the first results already after the first application but maximal results will only be seen after about 5-6 applications (at least in my case). I used this whitening kit every other day. So it took me about 2 weeks to complete the whitening process and to get nice results.
What I liked about it:
- every step is described in great detail and with pictures in the booklet you receive with your kit
- you get custom fitted trays
- because they fit perfectly, the whitening gel will be in close contact with your teeth and will be able to do its job properly
- the whitening gel has a concentration of whitening agent high enough to get fast results (22% carbamide peroxide). Usually whitening products contain between less than 10 to 22% carbamide peroxide. Professionals can sometimes use higher concentrations. The higher the concentration, the stronger or more powerful the product is. Of course, you cannot use too high concetrations because peroxide is caustic and could burn your gums. 22% carbamide peroxide is a quite high concentration but it's still reasonable and safe to use. However if it's the first time you whiten your teeth or have sensitive teeth, 22% might be a little too high for you as you might feel discomfort. The desensitizing gel would be a real asset here.

Overall, I think this kit is very interesting and everything is made very professionally although the staff of Smile Brilliant are not dentists. This last point is stated in their product disclaimer by the way. The trays are well made and fit your teeth very well. As I said you can see that great effort has been made in making them. So yeah, overall I'm really happy with this kit.
Of course, if irritation occurs, stop using the product and go and see your dentist. I personally didn't experience any irritations or problems.
