Beauty Edition

Nasty Gal’s resident hair genius, Rachel Brady, has been working her magic backstage at New York Fashion Week. Check out the lust-worthy hair she created for designer’s Nicola Formichetti, Badgley Mischka, Tracy Reese, and Rodebjer!

“This is Nicola Formichetti’s new line. He was previously at Diesel and Thierry Mugler, and has really focused on ‘club kids’ for inspiration and model selection. The look is Japanese ‘kawaii’ and goth influenced.

Peter Gray was the lead stylist and has styled Nasty Gal lookbooks before. He’s known for his quirky twist on beauty. Each model got a custom wig we cut to fit the face, outfit and personality. Several of the models kept their wigs for the after-party! Brooke Candy hung out while we shot the lookbook after the presentation… It was totally a party and not your typical show.”

Badgley Mischka

“Another show led by Peter Gray, the inspiration was Amy Winehouse and Brigitte Bardot. Very red-carpet and glamorous, which is what these boys do best. But always with that sort of Paris Hilton laissez-faire.”

Tracy Reese

“It was a NYC ‘urban warrior’ inspiration—a career girl wearing leather and fur.

The show was lead by BokHee an amazing stylist who conceptualized the graphic top knots-fresh out of the shower, all business, on-her-way-to-work-girl.”

Rodebjer

This a Swedish brand that has been turning out Swedish girl staples. Rodebjer is strongly inspired by counterculture, the human rights and feminist movements, music, film, art and literature—passionate people with strong ideals and the courage to live by their own rules.
The show’s hair inspiration was lead my my close friend Tony Kelley who has been my mentor for years. The products we used are a super exciting new brand from the founders of Bumble and bumble. They are called Hairstory Studio, and it’s a revolutionary hair care brand.
The hashtag for Rodebjer was #wearestardust and there was no shortage of witchy cult vibes. It was gothic and dreamy with moons painted on foreheads and sweaty post-festival hair. Lead stylist Tony Kelley tightly braided hair below the nape of the neck to create a skinny shape around the face, then finger dried to messy perfection with Purely Perfect Smooth Finish Creme with extracts of Rose and Primrose oil. Set into a deep side-part, the look effortlessly complimented the kaleidoscopic dresses and delicate floral silks teamed with fur and leather.
