Back on the Treadmill Train

I finally bit the bullet.

Yep… you guessed it, I am back on the treadmill train.

I got myself a membership at a regular ol’ gym today.

I don’t know what took me so long. Well, I sort of do. For some reason I was being a penny pincher… which isn’t like me, especially in regards to my personal wellbeing.

My home fitness routine has been doing a fine job, despite living in a relatively small upstairs apartment. My kettlebell, dumbbells, sandbag, jump rope and running shoes (plus chairs, stairs, stumps, and the like) have suited me well. Home workouts will not completely be forgotten… no, they sure won’t. They will always have their time and place; I am just craving something new and different for this fresh, spring season.

I haven’t had a gym membership since May 2013 (!?), if I’m not mistaken. This is when I wrapped up my time at the CrossFit gym I had I “love-hate” relationship with. My two-segment membership there was short lived due to injury; but, boy, did I love those workouts. Do you remember all of the WOD talk on the blog circa Fall 2012/Spring 2013? #burpeesandbarbells

Back to today and where I am at with fitness: I think I have hit a plateau (so cliché!). I wholeheartedly believe that one can maintain an extremely fit physique and lifestyle without a gym membership; but, in all honestly, as my clothes begin to fit a little tighter nearing the spring/summer season, I have a greater desire to mix things up with my routine.

Exercising intuitively will remain as the foundation for my workout regime, but I am inspired knowing that I have more equipment and classes and my fingertips… and treadmills. Treadmills are my jam.

Spring is a season for change and cleansing (hello, Spring Cleaning!). I was recently talking with one of my health coaching clients about “seasons of exercise/fitness.” There is probably a reason why some months your body may crave all the cardio, while others it may request bouts of intensity and strength training, and then it just might – straight up – need rest.

Believe it or not, I have kept a tally of my workouts the past three weeks (despite being absent here), and evening walks had hierarchy. I am keeping my judgmental comments aside, as I’ve allowed walking to be an entirely acceptable choice of movement as of late. There’s a season, and a reason, for it all.

The gist of it:

I joined a gym; it’s not even comparable to the beloved WREC, but I mustn’t be too picky.

I’m running without a knee brace these days, mostly. #twothumpsup

The treadmill and I have many sweaty dates in our future.

I mustn’t get intimidated by the dudes at the squat rack. Move over bro with the fake tan.

Now I won’t have to wait until 9:00pm to run in 95F heat this summer… hallelujah!
