Hanging Balloon Installation

Here’s a wonderfully weird balloon installation to try at your next party! We love these long balloons and wanted to use them to create something high impact… I think we hit a home run! Hang this over a table or use it as a silly photo booth.

This is super-easy to make, but takes a little time. We suggest putting on your favorite show and crafting with friends!

Materials Needed: Large Foam Core Board, pencil, x-acto knife, 160Q long balloons, balloon hand pump, 3m ceiling hooks, twine, scissors, gaffers tape

Step 1: Use an x-acto knife to cut a foam core board in half, horizontally. Use a pencil to mark equidistant holes horizontally across the foam core and vertically down the foam core. Our marks were about 3” apart. Use these markings as a base to continue creating a grid of dots on the board, while offsetting each row.

Step 2: Wherever there is a pencil mark, cut a small “x” with an x-acto knife.

Step 3: Blow up and knot a bunch of long balloons.

Step 4: Pull the balloon tails through the small holes in the foam core until the knot pops all the way through.

Step 5: Tie twine to a 3m ceiling hook and double knot it. Repeat with 7 more hooks. Allow extra twine (at least 12”) before trimming.

Step 6: Lay the two pieces of foam core next to each other, horizontally. Measure the width and length of the two pieces of foam board. Mark the measurements of the four corners of each board on the ceiling with a pencil and attach a ceiling hook to each mark.

Step 7: Have someone help you hold up the foam board while you attach the hanging twine to the corners of the foam board with gaffer’s tape. Hang up the second foam board and you’re done!
