Valentine’s Day Makeup Tutorial

How smart am I? I totally forgot that I had done a look and photos for a Valentine’s Day makeup tutorial at the same time that I did a review on the MAKE UP FOR EVER Give In To Me kit that I posted a little while ago. And now here we are, two days before Valentine’s Day. Ooooooops. Well, better late than never… am I right? Onto the Valentine’s Day makeup tutorial!

I used the gorgeous Give In To Me kit for this look, so you basically have everything you need minus whatever you use for your skin, ie: primer/foundation/concealer/blush. It makes it pretty foolproof to get a gorgeous, glowing look.. and an EASY one at that. I love this kit and I love this look.

For my skin, I used the Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Creme in light. I just have a sample size of this from I don’t even remember where, but I’m quite liking it. Considering the shade isn’t any more specific than “light”, it works quite well for me. It has just enough coverage to hide the redness a bit and just generally even out my skin tone.

For concealer, I used Benefit Erase Paste in fair. My choice of concealer is pretty much the only thing I’d change about this look. It was the first I’d used it after purchasing, and my dark circles are just too intense for this stuff. I couldn’t get it to cover them as much as I’d like, and the finish just had too much of a sheen for me even after setting with a mattifying powder (you can see this sheen in the pictures below). I think this concealer is definitely better suited for someone who doesn’t have super dark circles and is moreso in need of some general brightening. So, all that being said, I’d stick with my MAC Pro Longwear concealer (I am NW20) next time (because there honestly is nothing better!).

For blush, I used my all time favorite: NYX blush in Pinched.

First, I filled my brows with the e.l.f. Eyebrow kit in Ash. For my eyes, I used NYX Eye Shadow Base in skin tone, and then from the Give In To Me palette, I used Taupe Grey all over the lid, Silver Brown in the crease, Reptile in the outer corner and Pink Ivory on the inner corner and on my brow bone. Make sure to blend super well!

Next, I took the MAKE UP FOR EVER Graphic Liner, which I have been using pretty much everyday since I got it because I love it so much, and stayed close to the lashline all the way across my top lid, and extended out past the outer corner of my eye tiny bit to create a small wing. I then went back and thickened up the line from the tip of the wing to about the middle of my eyelid. Seriously, this liner makes doing your liner SO easy. It has a felt tip, so it’s really easy to control, even with shaky hands like mine.

I finished my eyes with a couple coats of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant mascara. I really like the brush on this, as it’s tapered at the end, so it’s easy to get to the little lashes on the inner corners of your eyes.

Last- but definitely not least because this is probably my favorite part of this look- the lips! I prepped my lips with the e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator (I LOVE this thing, everyone needs one!) and a little lip balm before I did my eye makeup so that they’d be nice and soft for when I got to the lipstick and gloss. I then used a combo of the lipstick (Rouge Artist Natural in Pink Beige) and lipgloss (Lab Shine Lipgloss in Shimmering Indian Pink) included in the kit, and it’s the perfect duo. The lipstick is a tad too dark for the light, glowy feel I was going for, but the pink and the little bit of gold flecks in the lipgloss brighten it up just enough. They are a match made in heaven!

And that’s that! I hope you liked my second ever Valentine’s Day makeup tutorial (see the one from last year here, where I went for a slightly more bronze look with a bold red lip). Maybe next year I’ll manage to get it up more than two days in advance, haha! What are your Valentine’s Day plans?
