Runway Report: Oscar de la Renta Fall 2015

Perhaps the most anticipated fashion presentation in New York this week has been Oscar de la Renta – and Peter Copping’s début as Creative Director of the brand. Still mourning the great designer, who passed away in October, family, friends and fans gathered in hopes to re-live the legacy Oscar left behind.

To everyone’s delights, Copping brought back the long-standing elegance and color of the label, but added fringe, stripes and shorter hemlines. “I brought in more short dresses, and new fabrications – a modern, light duchess satin, for instance, where before it would have been taffeta,” Copping said after the show. “I wanted to be respectful to Oscar’s legacy, and at the same time fashion moves quickly, so you have to state your intentions straight away.”

And proving it’s not just about the gowns, which were often embellished with deep pockets, Copping experimented with mismatched tweeds, ruffled blouses, color blocked mink and a new slouchy attitude.

It is refreshing to see the changes, but important to note the legacy has remained unchanged.
