CHANEL Backstage Beauty Ready-To-Wear SS/2019

On October 2nd, CHANEL’s Ready-To-Wear Spring/Summer 2019 Collection was a show unlike anything seen before, with the House’s venue of choice, Le Grand Palais (Paris) transformed into an extravagant “C-side” beach resort, complete with cabanas, loungers, a lifeguard … and real lapping waves, no less. The scope of this accomplishment is matched only by M. Lagerfeld’s limitless creativity and what’s more, even the models all seemed in a joyous mood; I guess having one’s feet in the sand versus wearing uncomfortable heels will have that effect. And while the clothing was all swoon-worthy — not to mention totally relatable, I was personally transfixed by the makeup look Lucia Pica created: effortless beach glam, is what I’m calling it.

The Grand Palais transformed into the most spectacular beach (I can’t even)

Lucia Pica, Global Creative Make-Up & Colour Director for CHANEL

The Products used:

Teint Vitalumière Aqua · Le Correcteur de CHANEL · Natural Finish Loose Powder

Palette Essentielle (AW/2017 Travel Diary) · Les 9 Ombres Edition N°2 Quintessence (SS/2019) · Baume Essentielle Sculpting (SS/2019)

Brows, Lips & Nails:

Stylo Sourcils Waterproof · Rouge Allure Velvet N°72 Infrarose (SS/2019) · Le Vernis N°646 Beached Mauve (SS/2019)

In keeping with the seaside theme, all the models sported healthy-looking skin with just a hint of a flush and a soft glow along both cheekbones and lids, defined lashes and lightly groomed brows, with all the emphasis falling on lips that were coloured a vibrant pink red shade that looked amazing against all skin tones. Nails were softly hued — a totally wearable shade, and one meant to harmonize with the fashion.

Pretty sure I need every one of these necklaces

… this hat as well

Not surprisingly, the fashion was breathtaking yet at the same time completely relatable. Below, I’ve selected some of my favourites in both light & dark themes:

CHANEL beach attire means jumpsuits & iconic tweed, while the one-shoulder swimsuit and low-slung jeans has a distinct 80’s vibe — but done so much better

Apparently cycle shorts are in right now & pairing them with a form-fitting black tweed jacket seems to elevate this sports staple into evening wear. Who would have thought?

The finale
