Let’s Talk about My Face & SpaMedica

As you all know I turned 40 two weeks ago. They say that 40 is the new 30 and I would agree except my face, I mean my skin, is looking closer to 40. I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me, it does, a lot. I have fair skin and I have started to take care of it but 37/38 years of sun exposure has given me the wonderful gift of sun damage which includes noticeable sun spots on both sides of my face, uneven increase in melanin production, which produces irregular coloring or pigmentation plus a permanent stretching (dilation) of small blood vessels and giving my skin a mottled, reddish appearance. Then there is the regular laugh lines/wrinkles that are appearing around my eyes and mouth because I am so lucky to age (and I mean that, there is no joking in that). Oh, I forgot about the fact that my skin is getting very reddish and it may be rosacea which is very common in women from Eastern Europe who are hitting 40.

I’ve decided to do something about it. I’ve researched many options and programs out there and decided to go to SpaMedica for nonsurgical procedures (a combination of IPLs, FORMAs, fractional laser and Sonopeels). SpaMedica has been around since 1998 and is located in Yorkville. It is a beautiful facility staffed by knowledge people and patients/clients are all ages, ethnicity and compromise both women and men. SpaMedica has been repeatedly cited one of Canada’s top Laser Skin Care, Medical Spas and Cosmetic Surgery Facilities by Flare and Toronto Life Magazines. Now that’s all nice but not what sold me. The facility offers so many options, it is staffed by some of the best people in the industry and is run by a board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stephen Mulholland and his colleagues. Repeat after me board certified plastic surgeon! That is what sold it to me.

Dr. Mulholland has pioneered many of the procedures used in SpaMedica and has been a leader and innovator in the field of plastic surgery and nonsurgical procedures. Plus he is a guest expert on Cityline (appearing on numerous occasions) and after appearing on the program for a little over a year I have the upmost respect for the other experts on the show.

I wanted to let you all know what I am doing “when” (I am very hopeful and in the best of hands but it could be “if”) you notice how beautiful my skin looks. I want you to know what I’m going through and what happens during the procedures. The staff is going to let me document everything and put up with me taking pictures and having a bit of fun with all of it. I won’t lie to you and tell you that I am reverse aging or that I am just drinking lots of water or taking supplements and vitamins. I’m looking at you “Hollywood”. It really isn’t a big deal but as we age we’re made to feel “bad” for aging and we need to keep it a secret when we decide to do something about it.

I’ve already gone through one treatment, FORMA, the day before I appeared on Cityline. It has no down time and no visible signs of me undergoing (? is that the right word) and I will share more about the procedure on Thursday. I taped a segment of Cityline last Wednesday (that will air tomorrow), the day after I had my first FORMA treatment. LOVE the fact there is no down time with this procedure.

The below picture is me make-up free with only lipstick on from a few months ago. It is professionally done and the lighting is great so you don’t see all my imperfections but you get the idea. I am hoping to have the one from SpaMedica taken last week to show you me in all my glory on Thursday. This is going to be fun and scary and funny and I can’t wait to share it all with you.
