Room Renovation Reveal

As some of you may know, I just finished renovating my room. Paint, furniture, decorations, linens, all of it. My parents decorated my room one summer when I was 10 at away at camp. It was pink with striped valences, young girly furniture, and more stuffed animals then your local toy store. It was awesome, but more then 10 years later and I needed a change. The only thing that remains from my original room are the book cases and my bed – which is technically new because I got it this summer. And now it is time for the big reveal!

I salvaged, repurposed, and repainted as much as I could – in fact the only things that were newly purchased are the bedding and curtains (I used a gift card to Target), the silver bowl and Hector the antelope (both from Home Goods Clearance), the two new dressers kindly purchased for me from Ikea by my awesome momma, and the hooks that are not shown above (but were purchased from Ikea for $2.99 down from $12.99).

The starfish I had since I was a kid, the Paris painting was taken from my parent’s collection of discarded art, the chair was repainted from my old room, we had the glass vases (on the dresser) and beads (in the metal bowl) around the house.

Last Saturday and Sunday were spent cleaning out all the crap I have amassed over the years. Monday was picking out a decoration theme (obviously blue, silver, and white). Tuesday I went to Ikea for my new dressers and hooks. Wednesday was Home Goods and Spray painting the picture frames, starfish, and “R”. I took Thursday and Friday off for family. And on Saturday my friend Leah and I painted the room Fountain Spout (bought from Home Depot with a coupon). Sunday was filled with expletives as I assembled my Ikea dressers, put up the hooks, pictures, and other decorations, as well as reorganizing my 220 books (I counted) and various knickknacks. Monday night I painted the ladder back chair on a whim and hung up my little tissue paper puffs. And by Tuesday I was basking in the glory that is my haven.

I am so in love with how it all came together so quickly, and despite the fact that I probably won’t live at home for long after school, it was amazing to be able to finally put my own stamp on my room.
