Nikkie, the Dutch goddess from Nikkie Tutorials has bloody amazing makeup tutorials on her channel. While I always watch her vibrant vlogs and monthly favourites, all of the looks she posts are on the bold, too bold spectrum for a simple gal like me, but her skills and technique make me watch regardless. One day I’ll want to replicate a Lady Gaga extreme look!
If you don’t know, recently Nikki posted a video titled ‘the Power of Makeup’ where she wanted address the sometimes sheepish admissions we make when we say we like makeup. Or we collect makeup. It seems like a muttered confession that adult women should be coy about. That liking makeup would mean we’re less than intelligent. She applied half a face of makeup showing how she can be glamorous and she can be fresh faced and she is still herself with or without a flick of makeup. She wanted to make the video to address why she wears makeup. Why she enjoys being a makeup artist.
I wasn’t always into makeup, it didn’t start out as a little girl and if anything at times I thought my Mum wore altogether way too vampy looks. In hindsight now I can say sometimes wearing a bold colour can lift your mood. It can make you feel powerful. Such a little thing; but its true.
I discovered makeup later in my 20s, and I was always intimidated you know? It seemed too tricky, and that I would look like a clown. Or at best, a geisha!
Why do I wear makeup?
It is a mood lifter, it really is. There are so many facets of why I love makeup and its not an ‘innate’ girl thing, I don’t think that at all. After all, I got into makeup only in my late 20s! Here are just some of the reasons I love makeup and applying it.
So thank you Nikki for saying it and showing the truth of the power of makeup – its for the beholder of the beauty (products) not for anyone else.
