Love or Bust?

I don't remember ever having a training bra, they weren't made for kids with rapid growth spurts like me. There is a short but beautiful period of flat-chested bliss in my hazy memory and then in a flash of pubescent lightning, a sudden need for cup-page presented itself and I gave up running forever.
Maybe because I didn't have time to adjust to them or possibly because they alienated me and drew one too many over-familial comments about growing up, whatever the reason, I never bonded with my boobs. Compare me now with my pre-teen self and not much has changed. Apart from the additional five or so stone in weight, I still haven't reconciled myself with large (34FF in case you were craning your neck with curiosity) boobs. I even hate calling them boobs. Breasts sounds too formal, too archaic. Tits is my absolute favourite word but not for describing my own. Tits are for confident women who love theirs, who don't feel self conscious of them, covered or not. I long for tits!
Inevitably, nonchalance leads to neglect. Big confession: before last week, the first new bra I'd bought was a year ago, a couple of months before I got married. Bigger confession: I wore it nearly every day, at least five days a week, with a couple of rest days for washing. I didn't skimp mind you, it was eighty quid from Rigby and Peller and did a bloody good job of assisting my boob ignorance. That's what they say isn't it, the best bra is the one you forget you're wearing.

I didn't fancy shelling out another £80 on a bra but my Prima Donna beauty was fading fast (bobbling, holes etc) so the invite to the bra fitting event at Debenhams on Oxford Street could not have been more perfectly timed.

They sorted me out with the lovely assistant Anneliese from the brand Curvy Kate who took me along to the newly-renovated and rather lovely fitting rooms downstairs. She waited patiently as I tried on bra after bra and came in to check how the fit was after every try-on, pointing out areas that pinched or fit well. After deciding a 34F was the best fit, I chose the punchy coral set above but also bought it (with a giftcard I was kindly given) in black as it was so comfortable. The larger size range in Debenhams was pretty awesome and I didn't end up cursing the skies that all of the remotely pretty sets stopped at a DD like I usually do (Marks and Spencer, I'm giving you side eye right now!)
I know that spending money isn't going to fix my body woes or the disconnection I feel between my boobs and my brain but giving them some love and attention a little more often might just help patch up the rift between us.
