Smashbox Studio Smoky Eye Kit: Review, Pics, Swatches

Smashbox Smoky Eye Kit

Purchased by me

You don’t have to take a trip to Ulta, Sephora, or the department store to pick up your favorite beauty items, or try out new high-end brands. Today, there are many online sites that offer great deals on top makeup and skincare brands. Once such site is HauteLook, which has been a part of the Nordstrom family since 2011. HauteLook offers daily deals on top fashion and lifestyle brands at amazing savings, sometimes even up to 75% off.

Thanks to HauteLook and Cindy, I had the opportunity to test out the Smashbox Studio Smoky Eye Kit. The kit came packaged in a slimly designed silver makeup bag, complete with two small interior pockets, and included an O-Gloss Gold Intuitive Lip Gloss, a Waterproof Shadow Liner in Luminous Fig, and the Photo Op Smokebox Palette II. All three items are designed to help you create the ultimate smokey look.

O-Gloss Gold Intuitive Lip Gloss with Goji (.34 oz) – $24 (available on Amazon for $20-$26)

The O-Gloss Gold lip gloss is formulated to give you a glided peach pout that is all your own. It applies in a shimmery gold, before transitioning to your perfect peach. The formula wasn’t sticky, and thanks to the goji, it was also very hydrating.

Smashbox Fig eyeliner and O Gloss

However, it was my least favorite product in the kit. While it did provide a glow to my lips, as well as a sparkle that picked up the light, I really didn’t feel like it provided me with that gilded, perfect peach pout. If you promise me a gilded lip, you better deliver the gold. I think it is a great gloss for adding a bit of sparkle to your everyday lip, or for wearing over another lipstick, but it just didn’t add anything to the smokey eye look I created using the other items in the kit.

Waterproof Shadow Liner in Luminous Fig (0.09 oz) – $22 (available on Amazon for approximately $25)

Smashbox’s waterproof shadow liners are amazing two-in-one products. You get a waterproof eye shadow, as well as a long-wearing liner in a travel-friendly chubby stick package. One side of the liner holds the large pencil, while the other side contains the smudger. The Luminous Fig color is a gorgeous shimmery, coppery brown. The creamy formula glided on easily, and I had no problem smudging or blending it out with the attached smudger. Once the eyeshadow liner was applied, it definitely didn’t budge, so you have to work a bit quickly to achieve your desired look. The shimmer helped to create a dramatic look, without being too over the top. The shadow liner was included in the kit to work seamlessly with the eyeshadow palette, but it could also be worn on its own. Since the brown smokey eye is on trend for spring, I can’t wait to play around with this more.

Photo Op Smokebox Palette II (.16 oz) – $39 (available on Amazon for $18.99 -$27.00)

The last item in the kit was the oh, so gorgeous Photo Op Smokebox Palette II, featuring six shadows, and a nice sized mirror and double-sided brush.

Alabaster – a creamy matte bisque, with a hint of pink

Thunder – a shimmery, smoky grey with flecks of glitter

Blackout – a matte jet black

Roast – a shimmery dark brown with flecks of pink and gold glitter

Black Currant – a rich matte plum

Seafoam – a soft shimmery gold with flecks of glitter

Smashbox Smoky Eye Palette

All of shadows in the palette were easy to apply, and blended well. After watching the look video on the Smashbox website, I used the look cards, located on the bottom of the palette, to create two different smokey eyes. I always like when beauty companies include look suggestions, as it provides great inspiration. I can’t wait to play around with more of my own design, as I think this palette offers many options for both night and day. What I liked even more about the palette was its size. It is travel-friendly and great for creating smokey eyes on the go.

Bottom line: Even though the Smashbox Studio Smoky Eye Kit is no longer available on Hautelook, you can still find it on Ebay or Amazon for around $40-$55, or buy each item individually on Amazon or eBay. Plus, you never know when this will show up on Hautelook again, I missed it the first time, but made sure to snag it this time! The Smokebox Palette II and the Shadow Liner in Luminous Fig are definitely worth the investment.

Next time you’re looking to try out a new brand or to add some of your favorites to your makeup collection, consider checking out HauteLook and their daily deals. With such great pricing, items do sell out fast, so don’t wait too long to make your selection. Please feel free to use my invite here.
