Welcome 2013

Hi everyone! I’m pretty sure some of you have noticed my recent disappearance. I finally shifted to my own self-hosted blog. In the past year, I’ve thought of shutting down Quiet Girl a dozen of times because I barely have time to manage it. And there is also the issue of having scrambled posts. I wanted a personal art blog yet all of a sudden, fashion, beauty and food posts started pouring in. It’s labeled as an art process blog but it seems to be misleading everyone since the stuff I make only consist of perhaps 20% of the blog’s content. With much deliberation, I’ve decided to filter out all the art posts and focus on blogging about the usual personal and lifestyle stuff.

If you’re looking for my day-to-day (or weekly) work, all of them can be found in my tumblr: valeriechua.tumblr.com. Most of the artists I follow are there as well, so tumblr really makes me comfy. My portfolio got its own domain as well: valerieannchua.com (yes there’s an Ann there!) More about that next time.

I’m incredibly happy about the shift! It means I can focus on creating content more without worrying about potentially confusing people. Quiet Girl (this blog) will be all about lifestyle. It’s going to be a curated blog so I’ll be putting in a lot of finds leaning towards my style and interest, which is folksy and romantic.

Before I start, 2012 was pretty great. I’m not sure if I achieved a lot (I wish I did more) although I’m just glad that I slowly figured out what I really wanted. I’m not much of a positive thinker. I’ve always felt that I work best being negative because it drives me to excel more and it drives me to create great work. I’ve been in angst ever since I could remember and I think it’s time to let that go. I believe that I can still create good work even after turning that around.

Post-Christmas Acquisitions!

Tim Walker’s Pictures. It’s an incredibly heavy book (10 lbs). I was panicking when I purchased it online because it’s too heavy to check in the plane in addition to Irene’s baggage. Thankfully she was able to figure out how to send this to Manila. *whew* I think this is one of the best purchases of 2012. Tim Walker’s photos are breathtaking, he is very detailed and process-oriented. What I like most apart from the photos are the annotations. It makes you give much respect to the lengths artists go through to create a finished work that matches their incept.

Floral Heels from SM Parisian.

Necklaces from SM Accessories. I got a lot of gift certificates and I was only able to redeem them when December was ending.

This is my favorite! A White Leopard Bracelet also from SM Accessories.

This is a gift from Irene. A watch necklace from Promod and a TeNues bird notebook. Still figuring out this blog. ‘Til the next entry!
