Makeup Tips to Fake a Good Nights Sleep

We’re all guilty of partying a bit too hard when we should be getting our beauty sleep and it often ends up showing on our skin with blotchy skin and dark puffy eyes. Hiding behind big dark sunglasses whilst we’re sat at our desks isn’t an option for most of us so I’ve put together a few tips that will take no time at all and leave everyone thinking you’ve had a good 8 hours.

1. Soothe those puffy eyes
I find the best way of soothing puffy eyes is with cooled tea bags or ice wrapped in a towel. They were both particularly effective when my eyes practically disappeared into my face after putting insect repellent too close to my eyes (mozzies were biting my face and I was desperate).

2. Apply an eye cream
An eye cream will not only help soothe and cool your peepers it’ll hydrate and plump up the thin delicate skin around them, filling in any lines and reducing those dark blue bags. Currently I’m using Benefit’s It’s Potent but Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream is particularly good if you really need a pick me up!

3. Cover it up
A heavy duty under eye concealer is a girl’s best friend in times of need, covering up those tell tale dark circles quick as a flash leaving you looking bright eyed and bushy tailed. There’s a whole host of concealers that I would recommend, including the Nars Creamy Concealer but I find the Seventeen Phwoarr Paint is a nice thick creamy budget offering that doesn’t budge. However if you’re prone to fine lines and creasing I’d opt for the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer instead.

4. Fake wide awake
Curling your lashes will not only give them a bit of extra oomph but also open your eyes and make you look perky. Also using a flesh coloured liner on your waterline is an absolute must as it can make your eyes look wider and also take away any redness around the inside of your eyes. I’d definitely opt for Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof liner, it’s waterproof (obviously) creamy and easy to apply, plus it’s purse friendly.

5. Shimmer and highlight
If you’re thinking today is the day you’re going to wear your new copper toned eyeshadow- step away! A light coloured neutral eyeshadow will work wonders for removing any redness and giving you that natural effortless look. On days like these I usually reach for Mac Naked Lunch as it’s a lovely champagne peachy pink with a subtle sheen that just opens my eyes. Adding a little highlight to the brow bone and corners of your eyes will also make them pop, I use the Topshop Glow in Polished, it’s a lovely cream highlight that gives a glowy radiant look to your skin without being shiny.

A quick fix here and there and people will think you’ve been tucked up in bed by 10pm as opposed to coming home at 3am with heels in hand and cheesy chips in the other.
