Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils Review

Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils – £4.99

I’ve been ogling Nars lip pencils for quite some time, but as a money conscious blogger I’ve not yet taken the plunge as I’m still dipping my toe into the world of brightly coloured lipsticks, so when I heard the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils were practically a dupe and at a fraction of the price I decided to pick some up.

I am a pinky nude lipstick girl at heart so I couldn’t not pick up the shade Minimalist- a cool pinky toned neutral. I also picked up a red and I was surprised as I was sure I would have gone for Red Essential, but in the end I picked up Light It Up which is a gorgeous bright red.

The pencils are lovely and pigmented, easy to apply and quite creamy. I found Minimalist had a waxier texture than Light It Up but still fairly easy to apply. It’s also more of a matte finish of the two and the perfect colour if you’re looking for a budget version of the much coveted Kylie Jenner lip.

Light it up is the creamier of the two – giving it more of a glossier sheen – which is good and bad. It makes it easy to apply – but easier to smudge too – and it doesn’t last quite as long on the lips because of the creaminess of the formula. Having said that it’s very comfortable to wear and I’ve been reaching for this one a lot.

Although I’m yet to try the Nars pencils, I’ve read that these are really comparable and I definitely would say they are worth investing in. Yes they might not last as long as the Nars offerings but with a nice dinky pencil you can pop in even the smallest handbag for touch ups and change from a fiver it’s not bad going! I’m definitely going to be checking out the rest of the shade range!
