Desk Disaster

Last Friday, I dropped Jaye off at her Mother’s Day Out, and sat down to work. As I did, I heard a loud noise in my head, “Womp, Womp”

There was no way I was actually going to get any work done in this mess. So I had to do something about it. I have a lot of file folders that I try to stack, but then they all slide down into a big pile. So I rummaged around in the garage and found a pot-lid organizer that had been too tall for our cabinets and wasn’t being used. It was perfect for holding my folders!

The other big challenge of my desk is that it doubles as a craft desk for Project Life. So I gathered all those supplies together and used that orange box to corral them. The lid of a little teal gift box holds some journalling cards out in the open because I like to grab one quickly to jot down something cute Jaye said, or sometimes even to make a grocery list that can later go into my Project Life album.

I sorted papers, threw away what I didn’t need and organized the rest in the orange hanging wall thing-y. Those are all household papers. I used the cute woven orange basket on the very far left edge of the desk to hold all the random crap that would otherwise be scattered across the desk, travel tissue packs, chapstick, extra tape, etc. The basket itself is not very organized, but at least all the junk is off my work space.

Finally, I brought in a succulent that I bought for another project (which hasn’t happened yet). It can live on my desk to brighten it up until I get around to the project. I made myself a pot of tea and sat down to work.

Of course, as soon as I sat down, my boss called and said, “Let’s meet today, come into the office!” But at least my workspace is more productive and not such a disaster anymore. Now the question is, how long will it last? Does your desk become a disaster? What are your tricks to keeping it cleared off?
