Steal This Look: A Scandi-Style Kitchen in a Canadian Cabin

Yesterday we featured the Lake Huron cabin of Juli and John Baker, owners of Toronto housewares shop Mjölk. The kitchen, designed with architects Studio Junction, is a harmonious blend of pine, soapstone, brass, and Scandi kitchen accessories. Julie and John kindly shared their sources—from the floor finish to the vintage tea kettle—sources we’ve listed here.

The Kitchen

Above: Studio Junction designed cabinets and countertops with Carolina Pine finished in a lye wash and beeswax coating.

Above: Like Juli and John’s Toronto kitchen, their key kitchen tools hang from a long rail under the open shelving.

Above: Poul Henningsen pendants hang about a dining set by Ilse Crawford.

Above: A wall mounted dish rack holds just-washed dishes to drip dry above the soapstone sink.

Above: John and Juli worked with The Metal Peddler to design a custom brass rail and set of hooks. An alternate option is a few Oji Masanori’s Large Brass Towel Hanger paired together and mounted on the underside of a shelf. The hanger is $95 at Nalata Nalata.

Above: Coordinating Brass S-Shaped Hooks from Futagami are $24 each also at Nalata Nalata.
