Dear 20-year-old-self,

You’re in for a whirlwind of a ride. The highs will be high and exhilarating, and the lows will scrape your knees, and boy will they hurt. Don’t change or regret a thing. The good, the bad, the ugly. Life is a classroom and there is so much to learn here.

You are going to travel the world and see what a tiny place you occupy. You are going to take jobs that will shape your career and others that will make you feel like you’ve been set back. You’re going to have multiple career changes, and that’s perfectly okay. You are going to chase dollars, love, and adventures, and will become very good at bad decisions. Don’t be disappointed when you invest yourself emotionally in someone then they disappear. It’s going to happen a lot. But this is what life is. Experiencing the highs and the lows and recognizing happiness by the noise it makes when it leaves. It’s what keeps us on our toes and keeps us going. You always find the silver lining and that’s your virtue. It’s what makes you special. Embrace enjoyment and reckless abandon and make stupid decisions. In the end, everything ends up just how it’s meant to. I can’t tell you what the future holds but you’ve always been more comfortable in chaos and I have no doubt you will end up right where you belong.

You’re about to enter a new chapter in your life and I hope you continue to make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world, you’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something. The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So continue to write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.
