Exploring Liverpool
The weekend just gone called for a few days away in Liverpool. Mat & I set off, after a hearty breakfast in Bill's, to explore the city a little and attend a special get-together.
One of my best friends, a girl I've known since we were freshers at uni, a girl who has shared my home on numerous occasions (once even paying rent to sleep on my sofa bed when my ex-boyfriend moved out #babe) was celebrating her imminent move to Australia. Sob.
We were kindly offered a two night stay in the Travelodge Liverpool Central The Strand hotel, as a centrally-located base to explore and brunch our way through the city. As well as a place to rest our drunken heads after a boozy send-off for Holly.
Oh and don't worry, the brunch blog post will be coming very soon! It deserved its own post, it's that droolworthy.
The Location
I couldn't write this post without mentioning how amazing the location of the hotel is. It's situated a stone's throw away from the docks, which is home to Tate Liverpool and lots of great shops & bars, with the room boasting some nice side views of it all. Excuse the dreary weather in my photos!
Transport links are equally close, with Liverpool James Street train station about 2mins walk away and Liverpool Lime Street about 20mins walk away, or a very short taxi ride.
The room we stayed in offered a gorgeous view of the docks and the Port of Liverpool building, but sadly the tiny window meant it was pretty much wasted.
The Room
Although quite a compact room, as you would usually expect from a city centre hotel, it thankfully manages to pack in all your standard hotel amenities. King size bed, TV, full length mirror, clothes rack, desk, kettle (for brew o'clock, obvs) and a small toilet & shower room.
Tidy, clean and with fresh towels, it all seemed pretty good at first, but there's definitely some room for improvement. The bed was too firm for us, there was no hairdryer and the shower was an awkward experience. A stupidly placed hair & body wash dispenser right where you stand to shower led to a few banged elbows!
That being said, for the price of the room (from £79 per room per night), you can't grumble too much. It's merely intended as a place to rest your head after a day of shopping and sightseeing and being so greatly placed, it's an ideal hotel to spend a night or two if you want to soak up some Liverpudlian culture.
Our two night stay was complimentary of Travelodge but all views & opinions are my own.
