DIY Beige Camisole – Simplicity 1366

I've been wanting to make a bias cut camisole or slip for ages now. They're the kind of thing that are so useful to have in the wardrobe yet really challenging to buy. Most stores don't even carry slips these days. The horror! So, when I made this two-tone sweatshirt with its transparent sweater knit fabric, I knew it was time to make a camisole to go underneath.

The pattern is Simplicity 1366, View C by Cynthia Rowley. I made the top (View D) last year and really love it. It's a great basic shape that I've been meaning to make again. The camisole is cut on the bias with spaghetti straps and a facing for the top edge. The front and back have the same pattern piece making it really easy. I cut a size 14 which is a size down on the size chart for me. I don't exactly remember what I was thinking when I cut out the pattern but I figure I wanted a snug fit and thought the bias fabric would stretch that 1/2 inch I needed.

The fabric is a very drapey, soft synthetic that I picked up at the bargain bin Michael Levine store in downtown LA. It was really easy to work with and a nice weight for this.

The only thing I don't like about it is the facing. It adds bulk that I'd just rather not have. So for next time, I think I'll either be adapting this pattern or finding a different one. Do you have any camisole/slip patterns that you love?
