Introducing… the Tulip Skirt PDF Pattern

We’ve made it half way through the week so I think it’s time for some exciting Wednesday news… we’re very happy to announce the release of our newest PDF pattern!

Please welcome to the Sew Over It collection, the Tulip Skirt!

We initially released the Tulip Skirt pattern last year with our lovely pals at Simply Sewing magazine, and we were so delighted to see so many of you sewing your own stunning versions. So if you missed it then, now’s your chance to get your hands on it.

Super versatile, the Tulip Skirt is a true wardrobe must-have. A classic tulip shape, it’s one of Lisa’s favourite silhouettes. Designed to be gorgeously flattering, it has pretty slanted pleats at the front, with darts at the back for subtle shaping. The side seams curve to give that lovely shape, and also play host to super functional in-seam pockets. (Who doesn’t love a pocket!) Sitting at the waist, it has a curved waistband, designed to hug your waist with maximum no-gape effect.

With both a mini and a knee-length option, the Tulip is your best friend for all seasons and occasions. Pair with tights and the mini version is your perfect winter companion, or for those of you enjoying warmer weather, make the knee length version and show off those bare legs.

We love a high waist at Sew Over It and we think the Tulip Skirt offers endless style opportunities. Dress it up with a crop top or sparkly beaded tank, or keep it casual and go rock cool-weather chic by tucking a lightweight knit jumper in as Lisa has done. However you wear it it’ll keep you looking put together and stylish all year round.

Of course, the Tulip Skirt is a joy to sew as well as wear. It’s full of techniques so it’s great for advanced beginners eager to learn some new skills – get to grips with darts, pleats, pockets and inserting an invisible zip. A one-day project, it’s a satisfying make that you’ll want to make over and over again.

Sizing and fabric requirements

The Tulip Skirt is sized between UK sizes 8-20. See the chart below for details on fabric requirements. (Click to download the size chart as a PDF document.)

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

Fabric suggestions

The Tulip Skirt works best in mid-weight woven fabrics with a good amount of structure. Think medium weight cottons, wools and soft furnishing fabrics. In anything too lightweight or drapey the Tulip Skirt will lose its shape. For inspiration and to find the perfect fabric, have a look at our specially curated suggestions on our online shop.

Lisa’s navy version above is made from our Rio Crepe in navy, whereas the boat print fabric is a medium weight structured cotton, similar to our on-trend Scandinavian inspired designs.

You will also need an 8″ or 9″ invisible zip and a good quality medium weight fusible interfacing for the waistband.

What will I receive?

When you buy the pattern you will be instantly emailed a link to download the Tulip Skirt pattern and instructions. Remember to save these onto your computer. To create the pattern, you’ll need to print it out (making sure the scale is set to 100%!), and tape it together. Then you can use it as normal.

Never used a PDF pattern before? We’ve created a handy guide to help you out!

You can also print the instructions but we like to read them off our computers. The step-by-step instructions are fully photographed and guide you through every aspect of sewing the Tulip Skirt.

Get yours now!

With no shipping costs to worry about, you’ll get your download instantly so you can get to sewing right there and then. And until Wednesday 3rd February, you can get your hands on it for the bargain price of £6. Quick, bag your pattern on our online shop now!
