sunday in the city.

since i’m in a brand new city, i thought it might be fun to bring back some sunday in the city posts. this weekend i had a good friend visiting, and i’ve been wanting to check out the old fairfax district’s farmer’s market, just adjacent to the grove. when i visited with my family as a kid, there was just the farmer’s market established in 1934 — so i found myself feeling surprisingly sentimental today to discover that although a large outdoor shopping mall now surrounds it, the original farmer’s market is pretty much perfectly intact. i was filled with nostalgia walking the market once again and seeing some of the historic old shops — the same fresh peanut butter maker is still there, bennett’s ice cream, du-par’s pie & coffee shop, and bob’s donuts, all still there. all of my favorite childhood haunts (and delicious smells!) just as they were so many years ago. even the colorful cafe tables and chairs smiled back at me! so grateful that sometimes you really can go home again.
