Currently: The March 2015 (I Want to Eat All the Food) Edition

Do you think it’s possible that my stomach can eat the entire world? I don’t know what it is lately but I am feeding every 2 hours. I think that’s more often than most babies. I know Heather says I need to eat more protein – and I probably do. But seriously it’s like my belly is insatiable. More bread. More cheese. More avocados. More more more….!

I’m also a bit obsessed with my new bed and am typing this post from that very location. Between snacks in bed and computers in bed, I think I’m on a very bad path…

This is the second month I’m stealing Meghan‘s “Currently” post idea and I think I’ll continue to do so. It’s madness to try to come up with new recipes each and every day to post here so instead of going all cray cray on your ass and publishing recipes that just don’t work, I’ll let you in on the madness that happens behind the scenes here at She Eats headquarters.

This is “Currently”, the March 2015 (I want to eat all the food) edition.

Current Book: Not so much a book as a magazine fetish. I stopped buying magazines years ago due both to financial restrictions as well as a supreme distaste for advertisements. I allowed myself one a couple months ago though and the flood gates have opened, not unlike an alcoholic who “tries” a sip of booze and falls head first off the wagon… And then gets run over by the horses. Right now it’s Edible Vancouver, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and Saveur that are stacking up on my (imaginary) bed side tables.

Current Music: Um. I’m kind of embarrassed to say this but why didn’t I know about the greatness that is Beyonce?! Girl friend is a hot, sexy, beautiful mess! Girl crush? I think so.

Current Guilty Pleasure: So. Many. Bananas. You know how much I focus my eating habits on locally grown, regionally appropriate food, right? Well I can’t stop myself – I’m obsessed with Greek yogurt (the full fat kind baby!), chopped up ‘nanners and a ton of cinnamon, sometimes sprinkled with toasted pecans. It’s healthy, tastes like pudding and gives me incredible fuel for the afternoon. It’s my favourite, non-local post-workout snack.

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: Sunshine and rainbows. I know everyone on the Eastern side of the continent hates me right now, but ♫ ♪ god damn it feels good to be a Westcoaster ♫ ♪ .

Current Drink: The Fenhound! Part of this is because the drink is just so good, part of it is because I have a mason jar full of fennel infused vodka sitting in my fridge. Either way, I’m not gonna get scurvy!

Current Food: Cheese and bread. Duh.

Current Favourite Show: I know you may or not be familiar with it but remember that tiny little show on AMC called Breaking Bad? Well the creators of it have a spin off that’s on now called Better Call Saul. Yup. The lawyer. True to the nature of B.B., it’s loaded with gorgeous cinematic shots, fantastic music and great story telling. Oh yeah! And Mike is in it too! It’s seriously badass.

Current Wish List: Actual bed side tables. Since getting our new bed delivered last week we haven’t had tables – our old ones were much too high for our now very low, very modern, very swanky new bed. Finding something that’s not too wide and also not too high is proving very tricky. If I spill another glass of water on the carpet, I’m gonna lose it.

Current Needs: Enough time – or better management of my time – to get outside and exercise. This seems to be a recurring theme with me. I get all pumped for moving my body, do it nice and tight for a couple weeks and then suddenly I let work take over my schedule. Note to work: STOP IT.

Current Indulgence: Cookies and wine. It’s a thing. Right?

Current Triumphs: YES! This week I completely rebranded, renamed and refocused my design and social media business. Ohksocial is no more; say hello (to my little friend) Peppercorn Creative!

Current Epiphany: Everyone in the world has or will at some point, lose someone close to them. We all handle pain differently and process death in different ways but ultimately the major feelings are still there. In that sense, we’re all in this together. You aren’t alone.

Current Bane of Existence: The rain. It’s why I’m hiding in my bed right now and writing this post. That being said, I’m happy to write the post. But I’d be happier to be writing it from a patio, at a cafe with a glass of wine in my hand.

Current Thankfulness: You, man. I’m so grateful for you.

Current Excitement: Look! I’m on the cover, ma! This month marks the first in an on-going column I have with Edible Vancouver called She Drinks Local – cocktails featuring local booze, locally grown & organic produce and a fair bit of sass. And look! I made the cover this issue! Not even a big deal but totally a big deal!

Current Breakfast: Bourbon jam and lots of eggs, citrusy tomato hollandaise and vegetables. Is that wrong?

Current Fear: Kraft. And their new “Kids Eat Right” endorsement from that awful Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. When will the lying end?

Current Laughs: Apparently my Mom needs some anatomy lessons…. And to mind her own bees-wax. This still makes me laugh out loud, days later.

Current Obsession: Radishes. They never fail to amaze me when they first appear in the Spring. They’re like little jewels of nature candy!

Current Procrastination: With the arrival of the new bed, our steam trunk doesn’t fit anywhere now. I have to put it on Craigslist but for some reason it feels like I’m trying to lift the world every time I look at it. Someone wanna just come get it?

Current Links: I’m pretty much in love with Laura Belgray. Don’t know who she is? She gives brilliant advice on blogging, small business and being awesome. She also curses like I do and has a real no-bullshit, no apologies approach to pretty much everything. You should read her blog. She’s funny.

Also, I’m doing a culinary blog tour right now and you should check out the 3 drool-worthy bloggers who are featured! They’ll make your stomach growl and heart pitter-patter and your groin ache. Ummm… awkward.

Current Mood: I’m good. I’m a little bloated from lunch (I had leftover Oceanwise Shrimp and pesto pizza), a little thirsty for wine but all in all, feeling pretty fine. I’m looking forward to getting out of bed now, putting on some pants and finding my wine crank.

Now let’s do you. How are you feeling? What are you currently up to? What are you loving right now? Hating? What are you reading? Drinking? Eating? Laughing? Feeling? Obsessing over? What’s current in your world?
