Movie Review: Yellowbird

Now available on DVD, Digital HD and On Demand is the fun, family film Yellowbird from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Yellowbird is a computer animated film that stars the voice talents of Seth Green, Dakota Fanning, Christine Baranski, Yvette Nicole Brown, Richard Kind, Danny Glover and Elliott Gould.

Just when it’s time to migrate to Africa, Darius (Glover), the elder of the flock, is wounded. He will have no choice but to share all his secrets, wisdom and new flying routes with the first bird that happens to come along. The candidate is none other than Yellowbird (Green), an eccentric little fellow, super excited about the challenge, but without the slightest hint of knowledge or natural talent for migrating whatsoever.

Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.

The DVD also includes a few bonus features.

  • “Inside the Studio: Recording the Voices for Yellowbird” featurette
  • “How to Make an Animated Film with Director Christian De Vita” featurette

The DVD has a suggested retail price of $19.98. I’m not sure how much the film is On Demand or Digital HD.

I thought this was a super cute film. It’s one of those “straight to video” type of films. I think it could have done very well in the theater.

The characters are all very enjoyable and likable.

I am not normally a fan of computer animations. Sometimes they look “flat,” for lack of a better description. I found the animation in this film to be really impressive, most especially the landscapes and city scapes. They were really nice and look almost realistic.

This is a fun, fantasy film that takes viewers on a journey across the world. The birds migrate to a lot of great destinations and its fun to travel along with them.

I also like that this film is about stepping outside of your boundaries and not being afraid of what life has to offer. If it wasn’t for Yellowbird’s “adopted” mom tricking him into stepping outside of his comfort zone he would have never met his new friends and had the opportunity to explore this big, beautiful world.

My hard to impress teenagers both told me they thought the film was “cute” and “OK.” Even my husband thought it was a “cute movie.”

This film is OK for all family members, both young and old.

Look for Yellowbird where ever movies and HD films are sold.
