Supplements aren’t up there with the sexiest of topics to discuss in beauty land, but why should they be? Health is very rarely sexy and nor should it be, in my opinion something that is essential to our wellbeing doesn’t need to be glamourised to be attractive.
This said, I thought it was time that I shared a few of the supplements that I take on daily basis! As I get older I am trying to maintain feeling like I am 18, by taking a little more care without making it a big deal or remotely stressful, far too many stress abut feeling young or growing old!
001. Pasison Flower extract tablets : recently I have been feeling quite anxious, usually anxiety is normal and quite manageable for me. However, I know my body and have found that I am struggling to keep my head above the sometimes foggy thoughts and uneasy physical effects that a bad spout of anxiety can cause.
I know so many people who have anxiety and sometimes it can become overwhelming, which is why natural remedies are always my first port of call. By managing the physical aspect of stress and anxiety it becomes easier to focus on clearing the psychological element. Often it’s a real vicious cycle and the two elements do affect each other, but I find that once I’ve got a handle on one side the issue seems less important or even becomes easy to resolve. Until then it’s a good idea to try these, I have found they help keep me calm and level headed, of course stress is a part of everyones lives and this isn’t going to melt problems away but it really does help you deal with them. You can get these from Holland & Barrett and many other health shops!
002. Cod Liver Oil : this stuff has a real bad rep and I’ve always avoided thinking about it, but when I recently quite being a (full time) smoker, I decided to take more responsibility for the healing of my body and an aspect of that is with the right vitamin intake.
I am by no means a foodie, I can actually become quite bored of the physical act of eating and am very much a food for fuel type of person. That said I do try eat as healthily as possible, but am well aware that omega-3 and vitamins rich in fish oil are lacking from my diet, so got myself a bottle when I ordered some new protein powder from My Protein.
Vitamins A & D3 are found in Cod Liver oil and these help with maintaining healthy cells and tissue within the eye, healthy bone structure and absorption of calcium, repairing skin and hair, and healthy joints. DHA’s, also found in Cod Liver oil, help to reduce inflammation and improve the cognitive process, to get your brain working at full capacity with ease, the capsules are also much easier to swallow than they look!
003. Echinacea: this is one I have heard a lot about, especially among sceptics. I mentioned before that I will always try the natural route before being prescribed or buying something off the generic pharmaceutical shelf, but this time my lovely mum bought me these when I was feeling pretty awful.
Echinacea is a herbaceous flower from the daisy family, used to treat symptoms of the common cold and flu. I tend to use this when I start to feel run down, have dodgy sinuses or a tight chest and find it to help ease the cold off, while I dose up on vitamin C and take care of my body by resting.
There are many other uses, some are to treat quite gross things so I won’t go into it, but I am sticking to having a bottle of these capsules around as they do make me feel better and the packaging is quite sweet, a good bit of product packaging has been known to lift my mood!
These are supplements I take with full understanding of how they will work with my body and have looked into properly. Please make sure you take care before hitting the shelves- if you are unsure always check with the NHS / your doctor and never seriously Google anything medical (but you already knew that).
