How to Have the Perfect Family Trip to Six Flags

Six Flags opens back up this weekend! I am so excited because my family and I LOVE going to Six Flags. I’m here today to share with you how we save money and have the most fun at Six Flags, without losing our minds!

First things first, let’s talk about the Six Flags membership. It’s much like a season pass, except that it doesn’t expire at the end of the season, and you pay monthly instead of all at once up front. My husband and I chose to purchase the Two Park Combo Gold Pass, which gets us unlimited access to both Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water anytime they are open! This pass also includes free parking (a $20 value at Six Flags at least), and tons of other great perks. We paid a small refundable deposit of $20 per membership, and then the membership for a year will equal $75 a person! There are other rates available, but these passes or memberships are definitely a great way to save money. A single day ticket is $62, and then if you figure in $20 for parking, you’ve basically paid for the membership in one visit. Now, the $75 price we paid was because we purchased 4 memberships at once, but that’s easy if you talk to your friends/family and purchase them all at once! PS: They are currently on sale for even cheaper!

When it comes to preparing for your trip to Six Flags, the old maxim holds true: less is more. Don’t over-pack! The two things that are absolutely musts, however, are sunscreen and hand-sanitizer. The best way to pack your items is in a bag where you can lock the zipper so that it cannot be opened. My husband and I lock the zipper, then lock the bag to our stroller, which is locked to a fence or something when we’re on a ride. At this point, nobody is probably going to mess with your stuff, but it may still be best not to bring any valuables with you. Don’t lock up your bag before you get in the front gate though: it’s really annoying to have to take it all apart for them to inspect it!

If you buy the gold pass, you can get early entry into the park (30 minutes before regular opening). You can’t go to the entire park, but there are two roller coasters accessible. The real reason to go early, though, is to wait until they start letting people back into the main part of the park. If you go straight to the ride that matters most to you, you’ll avoid the lines! We went 5-10 minutes early one day and were able to ride about 4 rides before anybody really started lining up. For those of you who are wondering, there are quite a few things for smaller children to do, including rides and shows…there’s even a Bugs Bunny Block Party twice a day! Toddles love the block party and Monster Mansion, of course.

There are plenty of other tips and tricks to having a great time at Six Flags, but these are some of the best. Leave a comment below if you want more info on anything specific. I’d be happy to help!
