$6 Snack: Apple hand pie with rosemary caramel from O Pie O in Cincinnati, Ohio
We wouldn’t have know to go inside Madison’s to find this little window, where pies could be purchased, if it weren’t for Louis, a man handing out pie samples under a tent along the Findlay Market outside.
I visited: O Pie O, a tiny but growing pie venture in Cincinnati, Ohio. It currently operates out of the back of Madison’s Produce & Grocery and sells the pies at a tent near the Findlay Market. Pies are also sold at Clifton Natural Foods, Park Vine, Reser Bicycle Outfitters, and Sprout Market & Eatery. According to the website, a new pie shop will be open in the spring.
I tried: The four-apple “hand pie” with rosemary caramel.
Why it stood out: Actually, I tried several of the hand pies, including chocolate chestnut and bourbon pecan. They were equally delicious in their own ways, but most notable was the crust, which was buttery and almost crunchy, unlike many pie crusts I’ve tried.
It cost: Hand pies are $5 each. Full-size pies range from $25 to $32.
