NAFW 2015 Day 7 – Opening Ceremony Fall 2015 Nail Art

The task for Day 7 of Nail Art Fashion Week was to create a nail design based on your favourite look from Fall 2015 runways. This season’s shows were full of amazing nail art ideas, but one of them really caught my interest. At the Opening Ceremony show, CND’s Kodak-inspired nail art celebrated the early works of iconic film director Spike Jonze. One nail design represented 35-millimeter film through an interplay of collage formats and two striking linear nail designs featureing Kodak’s signature colors: red, yellow, blue and purple. The nails were a collaboration between the CND Design Lab Team, Opening Ceremony, and celebrity nail artist, Naomi Yasuda.

I chose to recreate one of the linear designs. Kodak’s signature bright colours appealed to me and the vertical pattern was the most suitable for my short nails. It was also an excellent opportunity to practice my line work! Hey Naomi, you’ve got some serious competition here in Sydney ;) …ok, just joking. This nail art is not a competition but rather a homage to one of my favorite nail artists.

To get the look: paint all nails in white opaque polish. Without waiting for it to dry, paint the vertical lines. Using a striping brush and starting from the middle of each nail, paint a black (or dark purple) stripe leaving a white stripe between each line. Then add bright blue, red and yellow lines. Wait a few minutes for your design to dry a bit and seal it all with a high gloss top coat. This 4th of July nail art tutorial will be helpful if you need more tips on how to do freehand linear designs.

Extra Tip: If you’re not comfortable with using a nail art brush, you can re-create this design with the help of striping tape. Refer to this Art Deco nail tutorial from our 30 Easy Nail Designs e-book for a step-by-step and tips on working with a striping tape.

Used: Sea Siren Cosmetics polishes - Leucosia (white), Ultramarine (blue), Where’s My Sunshine (yellow), Coral Atoll (neon pink) and Essie Good To Go top coat and RuNail striping brush.

Have you ever tried a nail design from the runway yourself? And, what do you think about my re-creation of Naomi Yasuda’s Kodak-inspired nail art?

On another note, that concludes our inaugural Nail Art Fashion Week! I hope you enjoyed following the daily challenges. If you missed any of the designs don’t worry, see them all here. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s special announcement!
