Kate Thompson Eschbach

Dear Mary Alice,

This morning I woke up giddy. Your actual due date is tomorrow and if you don’t decide to make your arrival, they are going to usher you into this world on Friday. Your oldest brother was late, too, and he is charming – you’ll see!

There are so many things I already want to tell you.

You are a miracle. Your daddy and I were told years ago that it wasn’t possible for you to be here.

If you had told me that part of my story was to have a miracle baby at 40, I would have laughed. Thank goodness God turns our laughter into beautiful, unexpected chapters in our story.

This pregnancy hasn’t been easy. If you ever find this blog and read along, you’ll know that the path included some rocky parts, but each and every one of those moments was filled with so much hope and anticipation of meeting you. That is the crazy part about life. When you look at a baby all of those hard parts melt into the far recesses of your memory until love washes over you like the softest petal of the most beautiful flower.

Oh Mary Alice, with tears streaming down my face, I want you to know that I just can’t wait to hold you.

I can’t wait to introduce you to your daddy. He is the strongest, most tender person you will ever meet. You are so lucky!

Your sister loves and sings and serves like an angel.

Your oldest brother keeps this home full of laughter and imagination, making sure we don’t get too serious around here.

Your big brother loves to read and already has toys picked out for you to play with!

I’ll see you soon!

Love,

Mamma
