How To Enjoy Your Summer Pregnancy

Brielle was born the third week of August of a VERY hot summer. This baby will also be born around the same time of the year thus making me somewhat of a summer pregnancy expert! Hopefully these tips will help those of you reading this with a growing bundle to arrive in the heat of summer!

  • Drink lots of fluids. This should be advice you take regardless of when you’re due but it’s especially important in the heat of summer! Bring a water bottle wherever you go!
  • Rock the Bikini. If you’re due in the summer then it’s probably pretty obvious by the time it’s beach season that you have a baby in your belly and not just too many Easter leftovers. Don’t hide from the beach or pool! Instead, rock that bikini and that baby bump and enjoy the cool water atmosphere! Tip: Buy maternity bathing suit bottoms (which are made to accommodate a growing belly) but use regular bikini tops. I went up a size for the top but was able to grab some plain ones that mixed and matched with my black bikini bottoms. Also make sure you lather up that belly with an extra layer of sunscreen. It does get tan!
  • Take a walk in the morning or evening. A few weeks before Brielle arrived, I made sure to get up and walk as much as I could to help move that baby in position and give me some exercise. Midday was not the right time for this activity so I made sure to squeeze my walks in during the cooler morning or early evening.
  • Put your feet up. I know this is contradictory to what I just said in my previous point. But you have to find time to relax and put your feet up just as much as you need to find time for light exercise. I never had swollen feet before pregnancy and know that the summertime had a lot to do with it. Make sure to find a cool (air conditioned spot) to sit back and put those piggies up! If you need something to do while laying down to make yourself feel productive, check out my list of things to do to prepare for baby!
  • Wear comfortable footwear. Flip flops are so easy in the summer but are not necessarily the best thing to wear to support your feet. Invest in a good pair of shoes to keep you cool but also support the additional weight your body will be carrying this season. Also, why torture yourself with heels? Trust me on this one.
  • Dress it up! I don’t mean get all dressy and fancy but definitely invest in a few sundresses for the summer season. I bought a few maternity specific ones from Old Navy that I loved but also squeezed myself into a few non maternity designs I had prior to pregnancy. At a certain point those pre pregnancy ones might get a little short in the front so you might want to try out the maxi style or even get some maternity skirts! My summer maternity style usually consisted of tank tops with skirts and sundresses whenever possible!
