Laughing Off the Nonsense and Celebrating Teachers in White Plains
Comedy Event Aims For Laughs; Slams Common Core

On Friday, June 12 at 8 p.m. at the White Plains Performing Arts Center six popular, rising comedians will invade Westchester for one night with one mission: to make teachers – and their friends, spouses, whatever – laugh off a ridiculous year in which they – as well as their students – were put under a microscope with an emphasis on standardized testing and the Common Core. Comedy: The Cure for the Common Core, which is presented by the online entertainment series A-Sides with Jon Chattman (thisisasides.com), will feature Carlos Gonzalez of White Plains, Simeon Goodson, who recently opened up for Hannibal Burress at his sold-out show at The Capitol Theatre, Liz Miele, Phoebe Robinson, and Westchester icon Goumba Johnny. The evening will be hosted by Chris Williams, a Brit who probably has no idea what the “Common Core” means but is funny so it makes it okay.

“Teachers and students are suffering with these ruthless standards put on teachers. You can’t just teach to the test,” explained Jon Chattman, the Mamaroneck resident who came up with the concept. “Test results do not matter more than the influence a teacher has on their students.”

That’s why Chattman created the event – as a thank you to teachers who deserve some laughs after a no doubt hard school year. “Every teacher who presents ID at the door gets in for half price. Andrew Cuomo can pay double,” he cracked.
