Makeup Mix Up: American Beauty Makeup Look

Makeup Mix Up

I totally didn’t think I’d have the time to create this look, but after boot camp class thoroughly kicked my ass (and about an hour of recovery), I was hit with a huge wave of energy and actually did come up with a simple look for what I’d consider “American Beauty.” It’s a super easy-to-achieve makeup look that I literally did by applying the makeup entirely with my fingers so you know you can definitely do it too! I’ve also included some other makeup looks I’ve done in the past that you can try as well if you want

In creating this look, I wanted a red lip. Red lips seem quintessentially American girl in my mind. It’s not just because everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Elizabeth Taylor have rocked one either. It’s just that it seems to embody what the American woman is – bold, beautiful and not afraid to stand out. That’s how I imagine the USA is as a country and a people (so cocky, I know, but it’s kind of who we are) – proud, fearless, and willing to stand against the odds.

It might sound cheesy, but it’s something I take pride in; my mother’s family has a huge military background that goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War. My great-great-grandfather, Theodore Penland, was even the last Commander In-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. It’s bizarre to think he was featured in Life Magazine in 1949 for his services in the Civil War (and time in the GAR, an organization for Civil War Vets). There’s even an article featuring my uncle talking about him. So, to me and my family, Independence Day means a lot more than just stars, stripes, and BBQ (though we love that too!). Anyway, back to the makeup post

Products Used:

This look was so easy to do that I’m quite sure anyone can pull it off. Coppers, taupes, and other neutral browns tend to look great on anyone with any skin tone, eye color, etc. And, to be honest, red lips look amazing on everyone. Just make sure you pick a cool or warm tone that you feel pretty!

On a more sad note, here’s what I look like in natural light just for reference so you can see how pale I actually am – I’m not about that false advertisement. Apologies for the fuzziness; the sun was setting so the lighting was a bit wonky.

I also thought it would be fun to share some other makeup looks with you all just in case this one doesn’t suit you.

These other 2 looks are a bit different in that the one directly below uses more golden toned eye shadow and the lips are more burgundy wine than red. The look at the bottom is a lot more beach beauty and uses a coral pink lipstick alongside sandy nude browns instead of deep coffee colors so it feels a lot brighter and less bold.

I’m not sure why I look so blank in this photo, but the makeup look is pretty on point for Independence Day so I thought it was worth sharing again, especially since the colors are so perfect for any day this summer. To replicate this look, I’ve listed all the products in the original post, but you can easily do something similar with things you already own. To do so, simply use coppers, golden bronze, and neutral browns on your eyes, peachy pink blush, a little bit of bronzer and contour powder, and bright red lips. The lipstick used here is bright red with a little bit of a pinkish hue, but if you prefer true red, it will look just as pretty.
