The Mystery of Macarons

Macarons and I have something of a love/hate relationship. I love how cute and delicious they are, but they are the most difficult pastry to bake EVER. I have tried and tried and failed over and over again to make them, but it’s pretty futile at this point. Macarons are just not in the cards for me. It’s not that I burn them all the time or anything, but macaron recipes require very particular measurement of ingredients, specific circle shapes, and a very particular temperature and time to cook them at. My macarons always come out looking hideous and tasting nothing like the ones from the bakery. Every recipe I’ve found has been hard to follow, too sweet, too bitter, or just too ridiculous to even try. My macarons always come out oddly shaped, slightly burnt around the edges and nowhere near as good as store bought ones.

Thankfully, the online world lends us some options for those who, like me, have an inability to make macarons at home on their own. There are so many online shops that sell macarons to try so just google “buy macarons online” and you’ll come up with tons of results to choose from. For those of us who want a more homegrown feel, we can take to browsing Etsy where the macaron designs are not only creative, but delicious and pretty as well!

Bear shaped macarons anyone?

You can also build your own macaron gift box – don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone their for you

For those with unique taste buds, there are matcha green tea macarons

For those who want an aesthetically pleasing macaron, try these Mariage Freres Marco Polo tea macarons.

For the purists, there are authentic flavored French tea macarons as well.

Macaron Recipes

For those of you who are successful at baking macarons you’re amazing or maybe you’ve never attempted before and want to, I found some deliciously pretty looking recipes for you to try your hand at!

For those of you who do make your own macarons at home, what advice can you offer those of us who are failing miserably at it? I’d love some tips because I prefer homemade over store bought any day, but for now, Etsy finds will have to do!
