Drugstore Beauty: Everyday Skincare.

We’re back today with another drugstore beauty post (in collaboration with CVS Beauty Club.) As a refresher, last time around, I showed you how to have an at home spa night using all natural (or at least, nearly all natural) products that you can find at your local CVS.

I have to be honest. I tried a LOT of products in preparation for this post, and it was really hard to find a drugstore routine that lived up to my standards. A lot of the natural products I tried were too simple — there wasn’t enough technology involved… it felt like I was better off cleansing and moisturizing with coconut oil (which is also a good option!) Alas, I discovered Burt’s Bees Renewal Line and fell in love. Think of it as your drugstore version of Tata Harper. Natural, but still high tech and science based.

Also, I’ve talked a bit about my loyalty to CVS and wanted to reiterate that again here. I am loyal to CVS because of the Beauty Club rewards program (and the product selection, too.) In Manhattan, there’s a drugstore on every corner but I purposely seek out CVS because of it. They carry all of my fave brands the ExtraBucks Rewards add up so quickly from my regular beauty purchases, meaning I can try something else and not feel bad about it… it’s like earning free stuff!

Without further adieu, let’s dive into the products!

First up, Burt’s Bees Refining Cleanser. I love this because it’s gentle but still manages to deep cleanse and exfoliate. I’ve said before that my face has a tendency to get rough and bumpy (I don’t know why, but exfoliation is the step I always forget about.) Having a cleanser with a built in exfoliant is really helpful… and this one gets your skin clean smooth without irritation.

Next up, Burt’s Bees’ Intensive Firming Serum. Love. This. Product. It’s really really lightweight and viscous. I apply a few drops after cleansing, and work it into my skin using upward motions. It’s designed specifically to target fine lines, and tighten up the skin to leave it nice and firm.

For daytime, I’m obsessed with the Firming Day Lotion. I didn’t photograph it separately, but this is probably my favorite product in the whole line. It’s incredibly hydrating but lightweight, and it also includes sunscreen! (Sidenote: why doesn’t every moisturizer include sunscreen?!) I really love how it left my skin feeling (super moisturized, but not at all greasy) It leaves your skin feeling good and healthier. It takes a little while to sink in (the sunscreen) but once it sinks in, your skin feels fantastic.

The night cream is a dream. This stuff turns your skin into satin. It’s velvety and really really thick… but it sinks right in and leaves your skin glowy and even the next day. When I was younger, I would use the same face cream day and night. As I’ve gotten older I’ve grown to appreciate a thicker, heavier night cream. Especially in the winter months.

Lastly, I’ve talked at length about the importance of an eye ream, and this one from Yes To is the best natural drugstore one I’ve tried. I really love it, and it’s all about the firming action! You’ll notice that I love my firming products, but as I get older, I notice that my skin isn’t quite as firm as it used to be. These products keep it nice and hydrated… and I swear, they leave my skin tighter than it would be otherwise.
