Protein Bar Round Up and a Throwback to My First IG Posts

This morning’s run was a little tougher mentally than I had planned. My schedule I’m trying to follow called for 90 minutes easy. Well, I went at an easy pace, but it just felt like a long time in the treadmill.

I’m still comparing the Polar Paul to the treadmill because I’m determined to not give myself credit for distance that I’m standing on the side. Ha. Too bad though because it looks a lot more impressive.

The run was hard to get into, but my Netflix movie, If I Stay, was good and talked at the end about sacrificing things for your family and for the ones you love. The Dad sacrificed and quit his band and sold his drums so he could provide a better life for his family, particularly his daughter.

That really hit home. Things are shifting that way big time over here as the boys are getting older and priorities are changing. It’s more about them and their needs and their time. I think that happens to every family. Yes?

I had to teach at the gym so the boys and I took advantage of getting there early to fit in a little swim beforehand.

I don’t know why I even attempt to get rid of my runner’s tan.

They were all about helping me set up though before anyone came in.

They are the best. I can’t believe we only have a couple more days. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when I have to look presentable again on a daily basis. It’s not going to be good. Ha.

I’m not going to have time to make these protein ice cream bowls soon so I’ve been having them daily while I can.

Sometimes they go down a little like this.

Have you seen Home yet? It’s so cute. The boys were dying to see it.

Okay, moving on…..

I’ve been through stages of limiting and avoiding certain foods. That worked for awhile until it backfired and I just craved them more. I’m finally to a place where I’ve thrown rules out the window and am just making smarter choices about fitting things in if I really want them. Not that I want to get into food talk really, but if there’s something I want I let myself have it and just make sure it fits into macros for the day and that I make sure to get a variety of wholesome real food in also.

That being said, I’m in a protein bar phase at the moment. There are a lot of new ones I just recently discovered that I’m loving so I thought I’d share.

These new Combat Crunch bars are delicious. They are gluten free and have a lot of fiber and come in a lot of yummy flavors. I got them from GNC, but also bought some on VItacost.

This one is the white chocolate strawberry.

It doesn’t always look quite like the picture, but it’s good. The cinnamon roll flavor is really good and I did just buy the birthday cake flavor, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Oh and you can never go wrong with cookies and cream.

The new Fitcrunch Bars are good too if you really feel like having a candy bar. I like then chilled the best and cookie dough or peanut butter are my favorite. Again you can get them at GNC or Vitacost.

Sometimes they make a great copycat protein blizzard.

I don’t always eat in my car and my most favorite bar to travel with that is oh so good for you with no weird added ingredients and is approved by Coach Elizabeth is the STRONG and KIND protein bars.

My favorite is the roasted jalapeño, but their all amazing. Vitacost is actually having a sale on all KIND bars at the moment. I just check it and you can get 20% off.

See, don’t they travel well? I went through at least one a day in Mammoth.

Quest Bars will always be my favorite. They’re just good all around. Hands down, just fabulous.

My favorite is chocolate chip cookie dough, but the cookies and cream and s’mores (that Trader Joe’s now carries) are close runners up.

These travel well too.

And it’s always fun to save the big chunks for last.

Okay, enough food talk. Now I’m hungry and better get to the dinner happenings.

Oh my goodness, and I almost forgot Vega Sport bars.

Mmmm hmm…..

They are right on with their plant protein and real sweeteners. They’re super chocolately and are also really good chilled.

In a couple hours it’s Thursday and people were posting their first instagram posts. After scrolling through my bazillion posts I came on my first few.

Kitty. I still miss that guy A LOT. He was my baby. It’s just not the same without him.

These guys…….

I used to push them in the laundry basket around the kitchen and they loved it.

The days when I had those workout video taping dates with Bob.

A really old recipe for a peanut butter surprise pizoatie. I really need to make one of those soon.

The second full marathon I ever did in January 2012.

And the coolest calendar ever. Ha.

And I’m off.

Here are some fun quotes I found last week. I’m trying to get a favorite post together with a bunch of random favorites (including sunscreen because someone asked about that and I have a really good one I use). I’m hoping to get that up Friday before I drop off the bloggy scene a bit.

Have a good one!

Any family changes come with the start of the school year at your house?

What’s your favorite protein bar if you have one. Or your top three. I’m nosey.
