The Truth Behind Kylie Jenner’s Lips

Kim Kardashian’s butt may have broken the internet but nothing has been more widely talked about than Kylie Jenner’s lips.

But the speculation as to whether she has or hasn’t plumped-up her pout is finally over. Last night on Keeping Up With The Kardashians the reality star finally fessed up to getting temporary lip fillers.

The irony is that is was an interview with the editor of New Zealand’s REMIX magazine that spurred Kylie into spilling the beans.

The REMIX team was in LA shooting Kylie for their current cover when Steven asked her about her impressive lips. During the interview Kylie looked a little sheepish and ‘tip-toed’ around the question. But the question sparked Kardashian family discussion with Khloe saying: ‘If you avoid the question, you’re going to look like a liar.’

Kim added: “Your lips look amazing”

“But if something makes you insecure and you’ve been feeling that way forever – who doesn’t want to look amazing? Do what makes you happy.

“We’ve all had our own insecurities and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s just handling it the right way.”

“If someone asks you about your lips, just be honest. Just tell them, it’s not that big of a deal.

“Just make sure you keep everything subtle and don’t go overboard.”

Belinda Nash from nzgirl caught up with REMIX editor Steven Fernandez about how he prompted entertainment’s global media scoop of the year!

1. Of all the media in the world, and given Kylie lives in the media spotlight, were you expecting to start the “coming out” of Kylie’s lip fillers?

That wasn’t our intention – we never set out to “expose” Kylie’s secret. We wanted to showcase the most relevant celebrity for the cover of our beauty issue. She has the most famous lips in the world right now, so was the obvious choice! For us it’s about telling New Zealanders the stories of the most relevant and intriguing people in the world at any one time.

2. Was it particularly awkward asking that question face-to-face knowing it was the question on the lips of everyone everywhere?

Not really. It’s our job to ask the tough questions and Kylie was really good about it.

3. When Kylie gave her “lip colour” reply, did you press her any further or did you let it go?

We didn’t have any evidence to suggest she was lying and technically she didn’t lie to us. She just chose to leave out a key detail. She does use those lip colour techniques to enhance her lips.

4. Stepping back in time before the now infamous cover, how long did it take from idea to creation to have Kylie on the REMIX cover and did you really think it would actually happen?

We work really hard on our covers and securing global celebrities is more of an art than a skill. Once we had sent the magazine to Kylie and the Kardashian family they came back to us with an immediate ‘yes’.

5. You seemed to be highly organised before the shoot, is this typical for a REMIX shoot or did you know you’d have to be really on top of your game for this A Lister?

Our shoots are highly produced and well prepared. We invest a lot of time and economics into getting the best shoot possible, so by the time shoot day comes around we’ve put a lot of work into organizing it.

6. Was Kylie your first choice cover girl?

For that issue, yes.

7. Kim and Kris have a lot of creative control over Kylie – and especially for this shoot – but was Kylie able to creatively contribute too?

I definitely wouldn’t say they have control over Kylie. She’s really independent and knows what she likes and doesn’t like. Rather, they are heavily involved in helping her craft her image and produce cool work that she’s proud of. They more guide her than control her.

8. What was Kylie’s fave outfit or piece, and did she ask to keep any of the clothes

She loved the WORLD top she’s wearing on the cover and was involved in selecting that image. She loved the Kiwi fashion overall.

9. What has been the biggest surprise to you about having Kylie on the REMIX cover & how has Kylie reacted in real life and online to the shoot?

The biggest surprise has been the overwhelming international response. We knew Kylie was a big deal, but we weren’t anticipating the media storm it created. For us it’s just about putting New Zealand fashion on the global stage, by showcasing Kiwi designers on some of the world’s most influential people. Kylie reacted great, she shared heaps on the images on her Instagram, which goes out to over 20 million people.

10. Who’s next on your list of superstars for the REMIX cover? (PS We’re totes available!!)
