#BridalBeautyBreakdown – Blushing Bride

Every bride wants to look her best come wedding day, and thanks to our new #BridalBeautyBreakdown series, we’re spilling the secrets to make it happen. Each week, we’ll teach you how to create stunning beauty looks featured on SMP, and we’re starting with this one from the beauty goddesses at TEAM Hair & Makeup and captured by the oh-so-talented Jose Villa. Get the tips and products below that will perfectly enhance your natural beauty.

GET THE LOOK

MOISTURIZER | It’s so important to use the right right moisturizer and primer first! If you have dry skin, use a moisturizer in a lotion or cream form, then layer with a lotion-form primer—avoid silicone-based primers because they’ll roll off the skin once foundation is applied. For oily skin, use a gel moisturizer first, and layer with a specialty primer, like Smashbox’s Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Using the right products under the makeup will make for a smoother finish in the foundation and you won’t have to use as much product either. Let your moisturizer dry before moving onto the next step!

FOUNDATION | Apply and even base of foundation to give yourself a blank canvas. Use a brush to buff your skin and ensure an even complexion. Your photos will last a lifetime, so make sure you have the right foundation for your skin color with a quick swipe of the cheek with the foundation. If the color disappears in the skin then its the right hue, but if it looks light or too dark then your entire face will too. You don’t need to wear sunscreen under your makeup since most foundations and moisturizers already have an SPF in them, and, when your photographer uses flash, the titanium dioxide (an active ingredient in SPF) will make your skin appear white.

CHEEKS | The key to applying a pop of color to your cheeks is starting at the apple and blending in a downwards motion while moving the brush up towards your temple. For deeper skin tones, like this gorgeous model, choose a blush with orange undertones that will look rich and natural. Paler brides should look for a pink hue to make your skin look fresh and dewy!

LIPS | Your lips will be getting extra love with lots of kisses with your new hubby, so use a lip stain that will stay on all day. Using your pointer finger, tap the color to your lips and blend for a pouty, natural look. Finish with a little bit of gloss to ensure the color stays put.

EYES | Try cream eyeshadows for a touch of color on the eyes that will brighten and look flawless all day. Be sure to use ones which have no slip, meaning when you touch the product it’s barely there. If you have shiny, oily eyelids, start with an eye primer like Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance Primer. Once you have the primer and shadow base, use an angled eyeliner brush and apply gel liner along your tightline and waterline and fill in. This technique allows for definition without the drama. Apply layers of volumizing mascara (waterproof, of course!) to make your eyes really sparkle.

BROWS | Powders are your best friend when it comes to brows—they give off a more natural and soft appearance—and using an eyebrow brush keeps the brow looking full without looking like fuzzy caterpillars! The stiff bristles grab the color and adhere it to the brow when you fill in your natural shape. To keep your brows looking natural and full, always go a shade lighter than your first choice.

HIGHLIGHTING | For an instant natural highlight, try Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat, which creates magic on all skin tones. Using your finger (a pro should be using a brush) dab on the ocular bone under your eye and gently tap in until blended. This will create a soft glow, which will pop in photos and look amazing in soft light or a candle-lit reception.
