INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES: MIMI
ENG // Every other week I add another home to my interior photography series. This time in a small studio somewhere in the West of Amsterdam I meet Mimi. A just-turned 22 fashion, food and interior stylist, ready to storm the creative world with her enthusiasm, her charming smile and of course, her talent for styling and visual design. We chat away and drink coffee in her minimalistic styled home when I can’t help myself staring at a somewhat revealing and unsettling image, or better to say art-work, of a woman’s private parts. I raise my eyebrows and my eyes ask her what the story is about. “Oh yes, I got that for my birthday from a family member haha. Well it is what it is: L’origine du monde. And it’s actually from quite a famous artist from Berlin. ” We giggle. Although her studio is small, it definitely is filled with quirky, personal attributes that give the place a real reflection of the person who’s living in it. I like her faint colour use and the careful way the small details are decorated. But what do you think of Mimi’s place? Do you have a small appartement or studio yourself and how did you decorate it?
NL // In deze interieur series fotografeer ik interessante huizen in en rondom Amsterdam. Deze keer ben ik ergens in Amsterdam West beland, bij Mimi thuis. Een net 22-jarige afgestudeerde mode, interieur en food stylist, klaar om de creatieve wereld te bestormen met haar enthousiasme, haar charmante glimlach en natuurlijk, haar onuitputtelijke talenten. We praten wat en drinken koffie in haar minimalistisch gestylde studio wanneer mijn blik hulpeloos blijft hangen bij een ietwat verontrustend beeld, of meer kunstwerk, van een vrouw haar private delen. Ik trek m’n wenkbrauwen op als mijn ogen haar vragend aankijken. “Oh ja, die heb ik gekregen van een familielid haha. Nu ja het is ook gewoon zo: L’origine du monde. En het komt van een best bekende kunstenaar uit Berlijn.” We lachen. Haar studio is klein, maar gevuld met grappige, persoonlijke attributen die een klein gedeelte van het karakter van de bewoonster prijsgeven. Ik vind haar kleurgebruik en de manier waarop ze haar huis met oog voor detail heeft aangekleed aanstekelijk. Wat vind jij van Mimi’s woning?
