Kate Moss for Rag & Bone Spring Summer 2013

It’s not often I post campaign previews but for Kate Moss’s partnership with Rag & Bone I make an exception. Their previous fall campaign also featured La Moss in a series of photographs taken by Craig McDean in North London, an editorial I particularly loved for its nod to the brand’s British roots (founders and designer duo Marcus Wainwright and David Neville are originally from the UK.) Oh that my first photos for StyleOnTheCouch taken on my own street in north London looked so good hmm.

For spring summer 2013 Kate is seen wearing Rag & Bone’s immensely wearable designs against the backdrop of pretty Southrop, Gloucestershire, in the wonderfully sleepy Cotswolds. It feels a fitting setting in which to emphasise the brand’s Brit heritage along with showing off the clean silhouettes and beautiful construction of the clothing in sharp contrast to the countryside – urban style in a rural setting.

From Rag & Bone’s website, the inspiration behind their SS 2013 collection:

“For spring summer 2013, Rag & Bone looked to the great outdoors, starting with the idea of the Dakar Rally before exploring military safari and bedouin culture. ’I watched the Dakar Rally as a Kid, which is how we got into desert motor sport’ explains Rag & Bone’s Marcus Wainwright. ’We were interested in the contrast between modern elements – like block colours, leather and technical modern fabrics, juxtaposed with these floaty white and striped pieces inspired by bedouin dress. Military is always a reference for us and the desert theme evolved into looking at what the British Army wore in North Africa’.

We wanted to do a hard soft contrast and also really explore silhouettes this season,’ Wainwright adds. Proportions span from cropped and body fitting to oversized. Volume is also introduced in exaggerated details in pockets and sleeves. Rag & Bone’s philosophy of embracing utilitarian design and incorporating unexpected detailing is realised in dresses which can be unzipped to create to separate pieces. Details include perforation, leather padding and deconstructed tailoring.

The color palette for SS 2013 is saturated, featuring bold blues and greens and spiced coral along with chinchilla. Crisp white is also predominant running in multiple styles, from a trench coat and leather short to a quilted skirt and perforated smoking shirt.”

Interestingly I read that Southrop was where Kate married husband Jamie Hince last year. I also learned that Kate turned 39 this month – what a wonderful icon of British style she is turning out to be. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to locate the nearest park bench for my next outfit post.
