Turquoise Waters
Isn't there something about turquoise water that makes you want to jump right in? The water in Praiano on the Amalfi Coast was so clear that you could see the schools of teeny little fish from up on a cliff. I've never seen anything quite like it and I can see why this place is such a popular tourist destination once summer hits. We may not have had swimming weather, but it was the absolute perfect temperature for wandering around and exploring the area. It was also so magical to see the beaches without all the sunbathers crammed into it -- I think we really lucked out on our timing because there really wasn't another soul in sight. The only problem was that it was a bit too cold to go in the water and we were all wanting to so bad! It's hard to see such beautiful crystal clear water and not go in. I really hope to come back to the Mediterranean Sea one day in the summer -- jumping in has gone straight to the top of my bucket list!
We didn't have much of anything planned for this day as our group split up to have a morning of relaxation, so we decided to check out the area that we were staying in. The view from our window was of an old watch tower from the 11th century and we had been wanting to check it out since we arrived. It turned out to be an artist's studio, where he and his apprentice were making molds of these busts with crazy sea foam hair that we had been seeing all over town. It was the last thing that we had expected to find in this fort, but it was so incredibly perfect. How much better could it get than that? Living out your dream in an old medieval fort with nothing but the sound of the waves and endless views of the ocean. I could definitely get on board with that.
In the evening, we met back up with the rest of the family for a special birthday celebration. We had plenty of amazing Italian food during our stay, but this was above and beyond. If you visit the Amalfi coast, you must check out La Strada. The views alone were enough to bring me back, but the food and the service were unmatched. That was definitely one special night.
