I love fresh and dried herbs. I just recently finished my new herb garden, with lots of encouragement from family and friends.
But the best kitchen herbs can be grown indoors in your kitchen window. The 6 herbs mentioned above re the most commonly used herbs and enjoy being trimmed, which promotes bushiness and stronger roots.
I picked up 2 sets of 3 small pots from the dollar store.
They are perfect window herb growing and compact pots with good drainage for the indoors. A good growing medium, I like, is Miracle Grow Potting Soil or Seed Starter. It makes the plants happy and they virtually grow without much fuss.
So the list is:
Parsley
Chives
Thyme
Basil
Rosemary
Sage
There are may fun varieties if you are already growing these herbs.
Try a curly or flat Parsley.
Thyme can be German, Lemon, or mini, but the later is very small and fuzzy.
Basil comes in many varieties. This year I planted Dark Purple, Asian Thai, Garden, Boxwood, Flat Italian, Lemon, Sweet, Summer (slow growing) Basil's.
Next year I hope to find another variety to add to my fun herb garden.
Rosemary can be fussy, I found the more I leave it alone, the better it is. And this years plant is a cutting from last years, rooted in water in the kitchen window over winter.
Sage is a great herb to grow. I currently an trying the Tri-color Sage, but next year I want to plant the Russian Sage for a new variety. But regular garden Sage is great!
So there is my list.
I hope you enjoy growing some herbs in your garden this year, or at least on your window sill. I have also inter-planted herbs in my Veggie Garden to ward off bugs and in-vigor the plants.
Enjoy those Herbs!
Blessings,
