The Model and Me: Bohemian Traders

YOUR casual wardrobe might be confined to the weekends and holiday but mine is an (almost) everyday affair.

This means I’m always on the lookout for key smart-casual pieces that are comfortable enough for working at home but also look the business should I have to step out of the house on mum duties or to catch up with a girlfriend for a coffee.

My friend Emily from Bohemian Traders continues to blow me away with her ability to create collections that fit my lifestyle.

There’s always a mix of boho; sport luxe and classic pieces that you know will work in your wardrobe for a long time to come.

The latest collection is no exception.

Deciding what to feature in this Model and Me post was indeed a difficult task – it was like asking to choose your favourite child.

In the end I settled on this monochrome striped dress. Here it is on the model.

The model

Bohemian Traders French Terry Striped Dress $129

and me

Bohemian Traders French Terry Striped Dress* (I’m 166cm and wearing L/14 here but have swapped for XL/16) | Bohemian Traders chambray shirt (last season) | FRANKiE4 Footwear ELLiE sneakers* (enter to win here) | Uberkate necklace

I still have my navy and red striped Bohemian Traders dresses from last winter – they’re an oversized style and available here – but this particular style is not over-sized.

The L fit me but I do look a bit more room around the hips – particularly when there are hip pockets involved – so I’ve swapped it for XL.

My hot tip to you is to buy in a size that’s best for your hip measurements – I’m a size 16 hips so the XL is the go.

This fabric is heavier than the navy and red-striped options. I love how it sits as a result of this fabric weight.

The length is shorter than some may feel comfortable in but mostly last winter I wore my navy-striped dress with black leggings. It was such a great alternative to jeans.

I’ve worn this one here with Frankie4 Footwear sneakers but I’d also dress this look up with black boots, tights and vest I featured here for a winter lunch-with-the-girls look.

And much like the half-tuck I like to do with my shirts, I’m all for using a shirt as an “accessory”. In this case, the chambray around the hips makes for interest and contrast with the stripes. Have fun and play with it, I say. My blogging friend, Rach from Redcliffe Style, is the queen of the shirt tie. Check out her #everydaystyle on Instagram here.

Oh and if you’re still hanging on to the fashion myth that you can’t wear horizontal stripes because they make you look bigger, it’s time to build a bridge my styling friends.

STRIPES ARE YOUR FRIEND.

Embrace them for all their timeless styling chic. The lines can actually work in your favour and create an optical illusion of smaller. #justsaying

Do you love a slouchy, sporty dress for the cooler months? Can’t resist a stripe?

PS. Check out the fabulous Bev from Iris May Style blog and see how she’s rocking this dress with leopard booties.
