I usually check out
Refinery 29 for street style looks or
Style for runway inspiration, then interpret the trends I like in my own way. A couple of my favorite
summer fashion trends are the warm tones and academic looks reminiscent of the 70's (think v-neck sweaters and suede a-line skirts). Classic pieces like oxfords (I found mine in like-new condition from Goodwill!) and a tweed skirt can still feel fresh when paired with modern styling and silhouettes. Luckily, a lot of these trends are carrying into the next season. Expect to see a lot of deep browns, suede, and tie neck blouses this fall.
For this outfit, I wanted to reference the 70's without being too obvious, so I paired a cream short sleeve bow blouse (it's made from a breathable rayon woven--perfect for the heat right now!) with a patterned tweed skirt in shades of orange and mustard. My black patent leather oxfords and vintage quilted crossbody bag were the perfect complements, their details intricate without being overpowering. I made sure to keep my makeup simple and neutral as well, with a black cat-eye and beige lipstick.
