MINI GUIDE TO VENICE BEACH
It’s been forever since I ventured out to the beachy west side of LA, so a visit to Venice Beach was far overdue. I spent the morning there on Tuesday and was reminded why that area is one of my favorite parts of LA (besides my forever love, DLTA). I love the salty air from the beach, the interesting wall art and the live music, but the best part is the main street, called Abbott Kinney. It’s the coolest spot, in my opinion. It’s lined with trendy new restaurants and small designer boutiques, and the whole culture is built around artists and entrepreneurs that are taking aim at all kinds of dreams. I feel like I still need to spend more time exploring there, because most times I’m in the area I’m there with an agenda, but here are some of my highlights so far:
Salt and Straw – super interesting and delish ice cream. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and it’s soooo good.
TOMS – I always thought Tom’s was just a shoe store, but the one on Abbott Kinney is actually also a coffee shop with a really cool area to hang out and sip a warm cup
The Butcher’s Daughter – The Butcher’s Daughter is 100% vegetarian and locally sourced, and most of their dishes are actually vegan and gluten free. Their menu changes daily, and everything is really tasty. It’s usually prettttty crowded (a good sign), so you might want to check it out during a non-meal time.
3 Square Cafe – 3 Square cafe is only open 8am-3pm, but they serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. Personally, I’m obsessed with their pretzel burgers and avocado fries (They’re literally fried avocado slices…yum)
Blue Star Donuts – I’m not a huge donut person, but I’ve always had a thing for the trending gourmet donuts, and Blue Star is the Queen of gourmet, French-style donuts.
Cuyana – Cuyana has been one of my favorite smaller brands for a long time. I used to post about them often in my early blogging days! Really cute bags, and love the layout of their store!
Garrett Leight – I wear Garrett Leight sunglasses on the daily, so this one needs little explanation. It’s always cool to visit a brick and mortar store though, instead of just ordering online.
Rag & Bone – Rag & Bone is another long time favorite. I especially like their denim and leather products.
Heist – I don’t know if I ever worn anything from Heist now that I think about it, but I always walk past the store and think everything looks so beautiful. It’s definitely worth at least a quick window shop!
Current/Elliott – I wear The Great more often than I wear Current/Elliott, but the two stores were started by the same ladies who happen to have great taste.
