DIY Essential Oil Plug-In Air Freshener
I have always loved for my home to smell good—be it candles, plug-ins, fresh laundry, baked bread and so on. Nearly every single day I light a candle for some period of time. I tend to burn pumpkin or vanilla-scented ones in fall and winter, floral for spring and coconut coconut coconut for summer! Coconut is my absolute favorite smell on the face of the Earth, I
love it.
But for now, I spotted
a very handy little pin that I stuck to
my cleaning board on Pinterest and immediately made my own plug-in air freshener refills with some essential oils I have on hand and they're working beautifully! A friend was over later that evening and commented on how
good the house smelled.
I just grabbed a couple Bath & Body Works plug-ins I had sitting in a cabinet (I'd stopped using them because of the chemicals in the scents), and used pliers to pull the wick out. There's a small nail in the wick—supposedly to keep people from refilling them?—so I really had to jerk that sucker out of there. Once it's free though, you can just push the nail out and not have to worry about struggling with it again.
I filled each one halfway with essential oils and then filled the remaining half with water, leaving a little space at the top so it wouldn't overflow when I popped the wick back in. For the one in my kitchen, I used a combination of sweet orange, tangerine and lemon and for the one in the living room, I did lemon and lavender.
They smell so good with a subtle yet fresh scent that I definitely plan to make more! Peppermint versions would be great in the winter or if we are dealing with stuffy noses and congestion. And I want a lavender one in my room for sound sleeping and relaxation at night. Love these!
