Planting This Year

Planting This Year

I am so excited that there is finally some color outside. I love the Spring flowers, the flowering trees, and the little tiny bursts of green starting to appear on bushes and trees. It almost feels like going from Kansas to Oz after living in an undersaturated world for so long.

I’m going to take advantage of that love and the need to spend more time outside by getting started on my garden.

My yard is teeny tiny and mostly shaded, so I’m a bit limited by what I can grow. I’m going to go crazy with herbs again. I’m going to repeat last year’s plan of planting lettuce in my little raised beds, getting a few seedlings going inside, planting peas and strawberries and a few flowers to brighten things up.

New this year, I’m planting Milkweed (get free / cheap seeds!) to help out the Monarch butterfly population as well as a few other pollinator attractors. I’m hoping that will help my produce produce more (hah!). Maybe this will be the year the thornless blackberries start putting out.

I’m going to have to give up on things that need a lot of light like tomatoes (though if the plants I let decompose last year come back again, more power to them).

I’m excited to get out there and get my hands dirty! Are you planting anything this year?

P.S. You might like my Grow Pinboard.
