Cherry Blossom Festival - Macon, Georgia
I somehow stumbled onto the fact that Macon (about a 1.5 hour drive from where I live) has a huge Cherry Blossom Festival every year and that the city is literally bursting with cherry blossoms at every corner this time of year. From the photos I've seen online, the festival is a big PINK explosion, not just from the cherry blossoms, but EVERYONE wears pink, even the older gentlemen wear pink suits, they even dye their pets pink!... and as a lover of every shade of PINK, well it just doesn't get much better than that for me.
We weren't able to see all of the festivities, including a parade that would not doubt be a pink feast for the eyes, but we WERE able to go to Central City Park, eat some fair food at the carnival, and see some beautiful trees. Next year we're planning ahead so we can make the parade and all the different locations that are bursting with cherry blossoms (great photo opps!) Downtown Macon is in itself a blast from the past. You can tell it was a thriving town in the 50s because of all the great 50s style signage and typography on the buildings. Needless to say, we will be going back!
I brought my new Obitsu doll that I purchased directly from the Parabox store outside of Tokyo on our trip in October (that was such an amazing experience in itself, visiting that store!). These are the first proper photos I've taken of her. It was so much fun to jump into some doll photography again! I need to take a photo to show scale, but she is MUCH bigger than the Blythe and Pullip dolls I'm used to. She's 24 inches tall! The great thing about this doll is that she has super strong magnets inside her feet and she comes with this round metal plate that you stand her on , so she stands on her own. No propping her up with bamboo skewers stuck in the ground, like I do with Blythe and Pullip. So, she rarely falls over as long as you find a good flat surface. I'm bummed I didn't get any detail photos of her shoes. I photograph her from the shin up when I stand her on the plate (the magnets don't work through shoes.) Here's a pic of her shoes... aren't they adorable?!
She fit perfectly in one of my vintage suitcases...
Oh! And I made her dress! I worked on it over the Christmas holidays. It was tedious and frustrating at times, to say the least, but I kept with it and I love it. I used some Cotton Steel fabrics as well as Heather Ross. The dress pattern is for a general 60cm/24 inch sized doll that I found online. I'm looking forward to making more dresses for her. Since she was a pretty pricey doll, I couldn't afford any clothes for her. She's been naked for many months (much to my boys' chagrin.. every time they walk into my office and see a big naked doll standing there they shout, "Put some clothes on that doll!" haha)
It's been so nice to have some nicer weather around here, although it's still flip-flopping between cool and warm temperatures... not to mention the RAIN!! But I can't complain seeing as many people in the States are still buried in snow! Yay for Springtime... on the horizon.
